Role:
We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Chief Technology Officer with 25+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership to guide our organization's technical strategy, architecture, and engineering culture. This is a senior executive role for a leader who has built and scaled technology organizations through multiple product cycles, market shifts, and growth stages, and who can translate deep technical expertise into business outcomes at the board level.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership
- Define and own the company's overall technology vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with business goals
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, advising the CEO and Board on technology investments, risks, and opportunities
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to identify competitive advantages and innovation opportunities
- Own the technology budget, including infrastructure, tooling, and headcount planning
Engineering & Product
- Oversee architecture decisions for scalability, security, reliability, and performance across all products and platforms
- Partner with Product and Design leadership to ensure technology strategy supports product vision and customer needs
- Drive engineering best practices, including CI/CD, code quality standards, testing, and DevOps maturity
- Guide build-vs-buy decisions and technology vendor/partner relationships
Organizational Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering organization, including VPs of Engineering, Directors, and technical managers
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, ownership, and continuous learning
- Lead organizational design and scaling decisions as the company grows
- Champion diversity and inclusion within technical teams
Risk, Security & Compliance
- Own enterprise-wide technology risk management, including cybersecurity, data privacy, and disaster recovery
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS as applicable)
- Establish governance frameworks for data integrity, system reliability, and business continuity
Stakeholder & External Engagement
- Represent the company's technology capabilities to investors, customers, partners, and the public
- Support M&A due diligence and technical integration efforts as needed
- Build strategic relationships with technology vendors, cloud providers, and industry groups
Required Qualifications
- 25+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and technology leadership, including 10+ years in senior executive roles (CTO, VP of Engineering, or equivalent)
- Proven track record of scaling engineering organizations and technology platforms in high-growth environments
- Deep expertise in modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and distributed systems
- Experience leading digital transformation, platform modernization, or legacy system migrations
- Strong background in cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and retaining high-performing technical teams at scale
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical executives, board members, and investors
- Experience managing multi-million dollar technology budgets
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree (MS/MBA) preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in [industry, e.g., fintech, healthcare, SaaS, e-commerce]
- Prior experience in a startup, scale-up, or turnaround environment
- Track record of successful M&A technical due diligence and integration
- Public speaking, thought leadership, or published work in the technology domain
- Experience with AI/ML strategy and implementation at an enterprise level
- Board-level presentation experience
