Job Description: Technical Manager – R&D
Company: San Telequip Pvt. Ltd. (STQ)
Location: Pune, Maharashtra
Department: Research & Development
Reports To: Group CTO
Employment Type: Full-Time
About San TelequipSan Telequip Pvt. Ltd. is a Pune-based manufacturer with 35+ years of industry presence and over 35,000 field installations, specializing in industrial gateways and interface converters. STQ is expanding its product portfolio into industrial communication protocol gateways, 4G/5G routers, and industrial Ethernet switches, targeting power utilities, railways, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure sectors.
Role SummaryWe are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead and grow our R&D team responsible for the design, development, and productization of Protocol Gateways, 4G/5G Routers, and Industrial Ethernet Switches. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone who can balance deep hardware and firmware engineering involvement with team leadership, project planning, and cross-functional coordination.
The candidate will play a central role in taking products from concept through design, prototyping, certification, and production, while building and mentoring a growing R&D team.
Key Responsibilities• Lead end-to-end R&D for hardware and firmware development of industrial networking products: protocol gateways, 4G/5G cellular routers, and managed/unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches
• Own technical architecture decisions — processor/SoC selection, board design partitioning, firmware architecture, and communication stack integration
• Drive development and integration of industrial protocols (Modbus, BACnet, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, OPC UA, DLMS/COSEM) into gateway and router firmware
• Manage the complete product development lifecycle: requirement specification, schematic/PCB review, prototyping, bring-up, testing, EMI/EMC and certification support, and production handover
• Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary R&D team (hardware, firmware/embedded, and protocol/software engineers)
• Plan and track project timelines, resource allocation, and technical risk across multiple concurrent product lines
• Coordinate with vendors/foundries for component sourcing, module qualification (cellular modules, SoCs, Ethernet PHYs/switches), and BOM cost optimization
• Support certification efforts (BIS, telecom/EMC, industrial standards) and liaise with external test labs
• Evaluate build-vs-buy and technology partnership opportunities (chipset vendors, module suppliers, IP licensing)
• Establish engineering best practices: version control, design review processes, documentation standards, and test/validation frameworks
• Provide technical inputs to sales, business development, and management on product roadmap and competitive positioning
Required Experience & Qualifications• B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Embedded Systems, or related field
• 8–14 years of overall experience in hardware and firmware development for networking/industrial communication products (protocol gateways, routers, switches, RTUs, or similar embedded connectivity devices)
• Proven experience developing products on platforms such as MediaTek, ESP32, Microchip (PIC32/SAM), or equivalent ARM Cortex-M/A based SoCs
• Strong hands-on background in embedded firmware development (C/C++, RTOS or bare-metal), bootloaders, and driver-level programming
• Experience with hardware design review — schematic capture, PCB layout guidance, power design (SMPS/regulators), and hardware bring-up/debug (JTAG, oscilloscope, logic analyzer)
• Working knowledge of cellular connectivity (4G/5G modules), networking stacks (TCP/IP, Ethernet switching/VLAN, routing), and Wi-Fi/BLE where applicable
• Exposure to at least some industrial communication protocols: Modbus, BACnet, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, OPC UA, or DLMS/COSEM
• Experience taking products through certification cycles (BIS, EMI/EMC, telecom type approval, or equivalent)
• Prior experience leading or mentoring a technical team, with the ability to review others' hardware/firmware work and unblock technical issues
• Familiarity with PLM/version control tools (Git, Jira/Confluence or equivalent) and structured engineering documentation
Preferred Skills• Experience with Linux-based embedded platforms (Yocto/Buildroot) in addition to microcontroller-based firmware
• Familiarity with network security concepts (VPN, firewall, secure boot) for industrial connectivity products
• Prior experience in a product company (as opposed to only services/contract engineering)
• Exposure to railways, power/utility SCADA, or industrial automation domains
• Experience with cost/BOM optimization and vendor negotiation for electronic components
Soft Skills & Attributes• Strong ownership mindset — comfortable operating in a lean team and wearing multiple hats
• Ability to translate business/product requirements into technical specifications
• Clear communicator, able to work closely with founders/leadership on roadmap decisions
• Structured problem-solver with a bias toward getting products to market reliably and on schedule
What We Offer• Opportunity to lead R&D Team developing Industrial Communication Products for a growing product line at a company with 35+ years of industry credibility
• High ownership role with direct exposure to leadership and strategic decision-making
• Opportunity to build and shape a technical team from the ground up
• Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience
