AI-Native Financial Accounting for International Freight Forwarding & Supply Chain
- Location: Ahmedabad ·
- On-site CTC: ₹12–18 LPA + meaningful upside as Shipmnts scales
- Experience: 3 years of maturity in product thinking and building
You'll build the AI workflows and the AI employee workforce that run financial accounting for international freight forwarding and supply chain. Not another dashboard on top of a ledger, an AI Native accounting product where agents do the work.
Forwarders, CHAs, NVOs and 3PLs move money across borders, currencies, entities and tax regimes every single day; today an army of finance staff stitches it together by hand in spreadsheets and portals. Your job is to change that: identify the highest-impact, highest-frequency finance jobs across billing, receivables, payables, tax and close, and put AI coworkers on them that draft, reconcile, file and explain — so finance teams close faster, chase less, and trust every number.
🌱 Our Product Culture
Deep user empathy, first-principles thinking, tight cross-functional collaboration. We take inspiration from Jobs To Be Done and Deconstructing Work Elements, and we embed ourselves in customers' daily operations to understand their world. Our development rhythm:
Ground Research → Brainstorm with AI → Iterative AI Prototyping → Develop → A/B Testing → Deploy → Adoption → Iterate again.
🧭 What You'll Own
Finance Cloud, end to-end — the financial accounting product and the AI workforce that operates it. From the earliest discovery signal to post-launch iteration, you are the single accountable person for its direction and outcomes. You don't need to be a chartered accountant, but you must respect what a clean close and a correct invoice mean to the people who depend on them — and you'll build genuine accounting fluency fast.
The problem space you'll shape:
- Agentic workflows — hunt across finance and adjacent departments for the high-impact, high-frequency tasks, map their real process and flows end to end, and automate them with agents. The unit of shipping isn't a feature; it's a job that no longer needs a human in the loop.
- The AI employee workforce — identify the roles a finance team fills today (AR clerk, AP executive, reconciliation analyst, tax preparer, collections agent) and build the AI coworkers that do that work reliably, with the right autonomy tiers and human-in-the-loop checkpoints where correctness is non-negotiable.
- Automated Invoicing Engine — freight sales invoices, credit notes and multi-leg charges, plus the billing engines beneath them: Detention, Demurrage & Storage automation, slab-window logic, late-milestone penalties, and the many-to-one surcharge relationships that today live in spreadsheets — all generated correctly, automatically, at scale.
- Global e-invoicing & taxation layer — jurisdiction-specific tax logic (GST, SST, VAT, withholding, reverse-charge, self-billing), field-level mapping to statutory e-invoice schemas (India IRN/GST, Malaysia MyInvois, and the next country we enter), across multiple companies, countries and currencies with entity-scoped books and consolidated reporting that still ties out. "The tax law changed" is a first-class roadmap input.
- Connected banking — embed an enterprise banking layer directly into the product: direct bank integrations, Bharat BillPay, payment gateways, and international payment providers, so money moves and reconciles without leaving Finance Cloud.
- AR automation with AI — ageing, statements, intelligent dunning, dispute handling and cash application, with agents that predict, prioritise and act on collections instead of finance chasing blindly.
- AP automation with AI — vendor bill capture, three-way matching against what was actually operated, exception handling and settlement — agents that clear the payables queue and flag only what needs a human.
- Reporting & insight for CFOs — the numbers a finance leader actually decides on, built on one report = one node, saved views nest beneath it, surfaced as insight rather than raw tables.
- Auditing & close layer — a faster, more trustworthy month-end: automated reconciliations, audit trails, flux analysis and the controls auditors expect, compressing the close from weeks to days.
🔍 Discovery & Domain Depth
- Develop genuine operational and accounting expertise — not just user interviews, but workflow shadowing with AR/AP teams, controllers and CFOs, support mining, and cohort-level behavioural analysis.
- Translate complex accounting workflows, tax rules, and compliance requirements into sharp problem frames: the underlying job to be done and the exact friction blocking it.
- Maintain a live insight repository that feeds roadmap decisions continuously.
🗺️ Roadmapping & Prioritization
- Own the multi-quarter Finance Cloud roadmap — balancing near-term delivery, mid-term bets (new agents, new-country compliance), and platform investments in the underlying ledger and data model.
- Prioritize using RICE, opportunity sizing, and sharp judgment — and defend your calls to leadership with clarity, including where regulatory deadlines override everything else.
- Document deprioritization explicitly; the roadmap is only credible when stakeholders understand what's not on it and why.
🤖 AI Prototyping
- Rapidly prototype multiple solution directions using AI-assisted tools before committing engineering capacity.
- Run timeboxed prototype sprints, surface trade-offs across competing approaches, and treat every prototype as a learning instrument — not a deliverable.
🔪 Deciding What to Build and What to Kill
- Design eval frameworks across user comprehension, task completion, correctness, and business value — for finance features, correctness is non-negotiable and belongs in every rubric.
- Score prototypes on a clear rubric, run usability sessions with real finance users, and make the call — with explicit rationale and conviction.
⚙️ Shaping, Speccing & Building
- Connect domain experts, CFO-level buyers and ground users' insights into unambiguous, engineer-ready specs: flows, edge cases, state definitions, tax and rounding rules, data contracts, and acceptance criteria.
- Be especially rigorous on the details that break real books — currency conversion, tax treatment, reversal/credit-note flows, audit trails, and approval workflows.
- Own sprint planning, scope decisions, and delivery accountability; know when cutting scope cuts value, and when it quietly breaks compliance.
🚀 Launching & Iterative Adoption
- Coordinate cross-functional launches and track adoption cohorts week-over-week post-release.
- Partner with CS and Implementation on migration and data integrity — finance features have no tolerance for silent data loss.
- Run structured retrospectives after every major launch — not for compliance, but to get sharper.
📈 Growth & GTM Motion
- Define the north star and health metrics for Finance Cloud, own activation/adoption/retention, and design structured experiments with clear hypotheses, instrumented from day one.
- Think through pricing and packaging for every major feature — base plan, tier uplift, usage-based, or outcome-based (e.g., automation that recovers demurrage the customer would otherwise eat).
- Write launch briefs that arm Sales and CS with positioning, FAQs, and objection handling, and define launch success upfront: adoption curve, revenue contribution, support deflection, and NPS signal.
✅ What You'll Bring
- Experience that shows more than 3 years of maturing in product thinking and building — a track record of end-to-end ownership and measurable outcomes, not just tenure.
- Having worked on B2B enterprise SaaS is a strong plus.
- Wrangle with data to generate insights and uncover patterns: comfortable with SQL, dashboard interpretation, and experiment design without needing an analyst.
- Fluent with the AI tool stack — prototyping, spec writing, and research acceleration in your everyday workflow.
- A strong background in financial accounting — prior experience in a fintech product, Big 4, or a CA with a product mindset — will give you a strong edge.
🧠 Who You Are
- You think in systems but execute in specifics.
- A storyteller who can communicate visually, verbally and in writing — simplifying the complexities of financial accounting so every team gets it.
- A product influencer who inspires and rallies everyone around them to crack the most complex problems — the ones that felt unsolvable.
- You hold strong opinions and update them when the evidence shifts.
- You sweat the details because you know that in finance, a rounding error isn't a rounding error.
- You're a sharp decision-maker who wants ownership, not just responsibility — and you know the difference.
🎁 What You'll Get
- Full ownership of a product cloud with real enterprise customers and real financial complexity.
- A direct seat at the strategic table with leadership.
- A team that values craft and depth over velocity theatre.
- Competitive comp (₹12–18 LPA) with meaningful upside as Shipmnts scales.
