Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Design Head – Solar EPC to lead our Solar Design & Engineering function. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing and delivering megawatt-scale solar power projects, including Ground Mount, Rooftop, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Utility-Scale Solar Projects. The incumbent will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 25 design engineers, driving engineering excellence, standardization, innovation, and timely project execution across multiple projects.
This leadership role requires strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, people management, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver world-class engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead the complete Solar Design & Engineering function for Ground Mount, Rooftop, Utility-Scale, and C&I solar projects.
- Manage and mentor a team of approximately 25 design engineers, including electrical, civil, structural, and CAD professionals.
- Develop engineering standards, design methodologies, SOPs, and best practices across the organization.
- Drive innovation, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize project cost and performance.
Project Design & Engineering
- Lead conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering for megawatt-scale solar EPC projects.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, including:
- Plant layouts
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- DC & AC system design
- Cable sizing and routing
- String sizing
- Inverter selection
- Transformer sizing
- Balance of System (BOS)
- Earthing & Lightning Protection
- SCADA and communication architecture
- Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, IS, CEA, NEC, and client standards.
Solar Performance & Optimization
- Oversee PVsyst simulations, energy yield assessments, and generation forecasting.
- Drive improvements in Performance Ratio (PR) and overall plant efficiency.
- Optimize plant layouts, equipment selection, and engineering solutions to maximize project returns.
- Support technology evaluation and implementation of new products and design tools.
Project Management & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Business Development, Project Management, Procurement, Construction, Quality, and Commissioning teams.
- Support tender engineering, technical bid preparation, and techno-commercial evaluations.
- Provide engineering support during project execution, commissioning, and client interactions.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within project timelines and budgets.
Team Management
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
- Allocate resources across multiple projects based on priorities and workloads.
- Conduct technical reviews, performance evaluations, and capability development initiatives.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the technical interface with clients, consultants, EPC partners, OEMs, and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in design review meetings, technical presentations, and client discussions.
- Resolve critical engineering challenges and support strategic decision-making.
Desired Experience
- 15+ years of experience in Solar EPC Design & Engineering.
- Proven experience leading the design of Ground Mount, Rooftop, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Utility-Scale Solar Projects.
- Experience delivering multi-megawatt solar projects from concept to commissioning.
- Minimum 5+ years in a leadership role, managing teams of 20–30 engineers.
- Strong understanding of engineering processes, project execution, and EPC business models.
