Job Summary:
The duties of the Paramedic are very broad. A Paramedic is expected to respond to emergency calls, evaluate and treat patients, and make transportation determinations based on patient presentation. In addition, Paramedics will provide care for patients being transported in non-emergency situations, such as hospital to hospital transfers or transports from the hospital to other destinations. Patients may be critically ill or injured, and may present in emotional states that render them incapable of rational decision making. A Paramedic must be capable of interacting professionally with family members, bystanders, and other responders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Have a valid Indiana Driver's License and be accepted by the hospital's insurance carrier.
- Must be licensed in the State of Indiana as a Paramedic as defined in (836 IAC/4-9-3 16-31-2-7).
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assessment and care appropriate to the age, mental state, and presentation of the patient.
- Must be able to provide care as described in the department's protocols, policies, and procedures.
Experience:
One (1) year of pre-hospital emergency care is helpful, but not necessary.
