LTE RF Engineer

Widelity is seeking an experienced LTE RF Engineer to join us as a member of our team at our innovative technology company. As an LTE RF Engineer, you will support the design, optimization, and performance of wireless LTE networks for private and public-sector telecommunications programs. This role will contribute to mission-critical network solutions, working in a regulated environment where reliability, security, and compliance are essential. The ideal candidate has strong LTE RF expertise, thrives in a collaborative environment, and understands the importance of documentation and standards-based work. 

This is a full-time position, and candidates must live in the RTP/ Southern Pines, NC area, Northern Virginia or Texas.    

LTE RF Engineer Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, analyze, and optimize LTE RF networks to meet coverage, capacity, and performance requirements for government and public-sector customers.
  • Perform RF planning activities including propagation modeling, coverage predictions, and interference analysis.
  • Analyze drive test data, KPIs, and performance metrics to identify network issues and optimization opportunities.
  • Support network modernization, expansion, and acceptance activities in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot RF performance issues and develop corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and customer stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, reports, and design artifacts required for government programs.
  • Ensure RF designs and recommendations to align with industry standards, security guidelines, and client-specific requirements.

LTE RF Engineer Required Skills:

  • Unwavering commitment to asset protection and cybersecurity.
  • Proficient in configuration and management of Planet or Atoll design tool including terrain, clutter (morphology), antenna definition, transmitter/receiver models, etc.  
  • Demonstrated experience designing large macro cell LTE networks in Planet or Atoll. 700MHzdesign preferred. 
  • Design experience should include interference and capacity design optimization of LTE macro networks.
  • Experience with design automation tools and applications for Planet and/or Atoll. 
  • Proficient at presenting and evaluating design results with colleagues and clients. 
  • Ability to self-manage and complete complex projects with minimal direction. Initiative to research and find resolution to technical roadblocks. 
  • Ability to collaborate with a client team as a subject matter expert.

LTE RF Engineer Position Requirements:

  • Unwavering commitment to asset protection and cybersecurity. 
  • Engineering degree or related field plus three (3) years RF network design experience, including three (3) years' experience in the following: 
    • RF/microwave experience with a wireless serviceprovider;  
    • RF planning process and use of propagation and design tools –possibly Planet, Overture, Wizard, or AToll;
    • RF instrumentation and tools;  
    • RF systems engineering knowledge and analytical skills;  
    • Work at cell sites: installation, verification and RF optimization;  
    • Proficiency with Software tools like MS Office, SQL databases, GIS software (MapInfo, Google earth, Bing Maps);  
    • Programming experience with VB Script or Java.
  • Will also accept bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field plus 5 years' experience in same.
  • All candidates must have at least one (1) year experience with: 
    • LTE–Kiema.  
    • LTE, Xstream, Windcatcher.
    • 802.16e standards & protocols.

LTE RF Engineer Desired Qualities:

  • Experience supporting government, defense, or other regulated telecommunications programs.
  • Familiarity with federal standards, compliance requirements, or contractual deliverables.
  • Knowledge of 5G NR and LTE/5G coexistence strategies.
  • Experience working in secure or controlled network environments.
  • Prior client-facing experience supporting mission-critical or large-scale wireless networks.
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or advanced data analysis tools (e.g., Python, SQL).

Additional Information:

  • W2 classification.
  • Starting Salary range of $90-150K/year.
  • A competitive benefits package is offered.
