About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Accessibility Engineer to ensure our digital products are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This role will focus on evaluating, developing, and maintaining compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), Section 508, and other relevant global accessibility laws. The ideal candidate for this position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide remediation guidance, and advocate for an inclusive digital experience. Responsibilities:
- Standards & Guidelines Implementation: Ensure products meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, ADA, Section 508, and other international accessibility standards.
- Remediation & Guidance: Provide technical recommendations to designers and developers to fix accessibility issues.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for accessibility compliance, engaging with leadership and external auditors when required.
- Continuous Learning & Advocacy: Stay updated on evolving accessibility regulations and advocate for inclusive design principles within the organization.
- Cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing and best practices within the team, becoming a key person that all engineers look up to.
- Represent technical expertise in sales and client engagements to build confidence and support business development.
- Champion code quality, best practices, and engineering standards within the team, ensuring deliverables are of the highest quality.
- Assistive Technology Testing: Conduct testing using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies.
- Accessibility Compliance Audits: Perform accessibility evaluations for web applications, mobile apps, and digital content using automated and manual testing techniques.
- Collaboration & Training: Partner with UX/UI designers, developers, and project managers to integrate accessibility best practices into the development lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in Accessibility Engineering & Compliance
- Strong knowledge of WCAG, ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications), ADA, Section 508, and EN 301 549.
- Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or other front-end frameworks with a focus on accessibility.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as AXE, WAVE, Lighthouse, ANDI, or Tota11y.
- Experience working with assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- Passion for inclusive design and accessibility advocacy.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical roles, with skills in mentoring and fostering technical excellence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in client-facing roles, capable of addressing technical challenges confidently.
- Must be an enthusiast with a go-for-it attitude.
- Collaborative, proactive, and able to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
