Position Summary
The Business Intern role offers valuable, hands-on experience in business development, marketing, accounting, and financial management, while also providing insight into customer needs. At White Earth Enterprises, interns have a unique opportunity to collaborate with seasoned professionals across four diverse business sectors. This part-time position is designed with flexibility in mind, making it ideal for current college or university students.
Payment for this internship is only available to students at White Earth Tribal & Community College.
Learning Objectives
Develop Industry Knowledge: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the promotional products and
building supplies industries, including market trends, customer preferences, and key competitors.
Enhance Communication Skills: Improve verbal and written communication by interacting with clients, preparing presentations, and drafting marketing materials.
Build Sales and Marketing Expertise: Learn how to generate leads, create marketing campaigns, and support the sales team in achieving targets.
Develop Skills in Accounting Software: Acquire proficiency in tools like Sage Intacct, Excel, or other accounting software used by the organization.
Understand Customer Relations: Develop skills in client communication, feedback collection, and maintain customer satisfaction.
Improve Technical Proficiency: Gain hands-on experience with tools and software used in business, such as CRM systems or design tools.
Foster Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a team environment, contributing to group projects and learning from colleagues.
Build Professionalism: Develop workplace etiquette, time management, and problem-solving skills to prepare for a future career.
Essential Duties
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist Manager and Office Administrator in day-to-day operations, including but not limited to:
- Financial recording and documentation processes, ensuring that administrative
processes run efficiently. - Completion of purchase orders.
- Creation of and processing invoices.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Provide support and assistance to other personnel by receiving phone calls, answering questions, assisting visitors, and performing other office duties.
- Special projects in finance/accounting, management or business administration, dependent on incumbent’s skills and career interests, as assigned.
- All other duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the White Earth Reservation Tribal Council and White Earth Enterprises.
- Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation demographics and culture.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in a college or university program, preferably seeking a degree in Business
Administration. - Similar work experience is preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Skills
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:
