Job Description – Welding Engineer

Education

Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering.

Job Purpose

Responsible for planning, supervising, and controlling welding activities for fabrication of power transformer tanks up to 500 MVA, ensuring compliance with welding standards, quality requirements, and production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Supervise welding operations for transformer tank components such as tank shells, bottom plates, covers, stiffeners, and nozzle connections.
• Ensure welding processes like SAW, GMAW (MIG/MAG), SMAW, and FCAW are applied correctly for heavy plate fabrication.
• Ensure compliance with standards from Bureau of Indian Standards, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Section IX, and American Welding Society codes.
• Conduct welder qualification tests and maintain qualification records.
• Coordinate with QA/QC for welding inspections including UT, RT, MT, and PT.
• Monitor distortion control, preheating, and welding parameters during fabrication.
• Ensure proper selection and handling of welding consumables and maintain welding documentation.
