POSITION SUMMARY
This position operates, monitors, maintains, and trouble-shoots the wastewater treatment facility, equipment, and its processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Not all duties may be assigned to each position. The allocation of duties for this position will be dependent upon certification level.
- Operates, maintains, and performs repairs of the wastewater treatment facility, equipment, buildings, and grounds.
- Performs proper effluent quality monitoring, and all processes involved with facility functions, including sampling, monitoring, analysis, and treatment as necessary.
- Inspects system operations and equipment, diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical and process control problems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and gas safety equipment malfunctions and make necessary repairs.
- Maintains and updates record keeping and performs data entry regarding equipment repairs, maintenance, and discharge monitoring data.
- Inspects, cleans, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on plant equipment and facilities.
- Operates agricultural equipment related to sludge land application and weed control.
- Performs snow removal operations.
- Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
- Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
- Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
- Performs emergency repairs and work as necessary.
- Reports to work for after hour needs, as assigned.
- Consistent and punctual attendance for all scheduled shifts is required.
- Other duties as assigned.

WWTP Operator I MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in wastewater plant operations. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- SDDANR Wastewater Operations I; pass certification examination within six (6) months of date of hire.
- Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, categories General, 1A, 7, & 12 within six (6) months of date of hire
- Valid Class B CDL, without air brake restriction, within six (6) months of date of hire.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must reside within 15 miles of the Watertown Regional Airport within six (6) months of hire. WWTP Operator II MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/equivalent and one (1) year of experience in wastewater plant operations.
- Valid Class B CDL, without air brake restriction, within six (6) months of date of hire.
