Forensic Analyst

The Forensic Analyst utilizes a variety of technical and scientific skills to identify and analyze physical and trace evidence collected at crime scenes as part of a criminal investigation. The Forensic Analyst is the third level classification of a three level forensics series. Incumbents in this classification function as both certified latent print examiners and certified crime scene analysts. Incumbents are expected to perform advanced journey-level work and use a significant level of independence, judgment, and expertise in the forensic analysis of physical and trace evidence that has been collected from crime scenes. The Forensic Analyst is distinguished from Forensic Technician series by the performance of assigned duties with a greater level of independence, judgment, and expertise. Forensic Analysts also perform a higher-level analysis of crime scene evidence and is responsible for conducting laboratory evidence processing and friction ridge analysis.
