About the Department

The Sustainability & Transportation Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of Energy, Sustainability & Transportation, implements college-wide sustainability initiatives and programs, and applies innovative approaches in the provision of transportation demand management services.

Position Duties

*Performs full budget and operations management of Wake Tech Green Trek, a grant funded transportation demand management program subsidized by Triangle Transportation Choices (TTC), administered through the Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG)

*Leads Wake Tech's transportation program's public education, marketing, and advertising efforts in collaboration with Wake Tech’s Communications Department and other stakeholders

*Coordinates and implements transportation and sustainability focused educational activities, promotions, campaigns, and engagements as requested and appropriate, and in joint outreach with TJCOG, GoTriangle and other stakeholders

*Executes sustainability projects and initiatives, energy reduction efforts, and conservation initiatives and programs related to campus sustainability, transportation, and supports Wake Tech's commitment to lowering greenhouse gas emissions

*Oversees College’s participation in and compliance of sustainability programs and organizations including LEED, Green Globes, AASHE, ACT, and others

Manages Wake Tech’s regional GoPass program across all campuses in coordination with internal stakeholders, GoRaleigh, GoTriangle, and other transportation entities

Serves on campus committees as assigned and attends meetings and events with internal and external organizations to represent the College on sustainability and transportation issues

Conducts survey research for transportation efforts on Wake Tech campuses

Maintains the department’s Energy, Sustainability and Transportation webpages and social media platforms to maximize communication with Wake Tech employees, students, general public and/or specific audiences

Presents information on transportation and sustainability topics and initiatives at professional development conferences and within student classes

Assists in defining sustainability guidelines, initiatives, and goals, and tracks performance metrics to assess program effectiveness

Researches and reviews products, materials, services, and technologies related to sustainable construction, operations, and maintenance of campus infrastructure

Reviews College Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) for compliance of sustainable materials and methodologies

Performs project management functions for minor CIPs related to sustainability projects below $100,000

Participates in periodic project Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) meetings and provides recommendations on topics of sustainability and transportation

Compiles and completes monthly, quarterly, and annual TTC reports and supporting documentation of all Green Trek and transportation activities

Pursues grant funding opportunities and completes annual Green Trek grant request in a timely and thorough manner to secure funding for new projects and ongoing transportation initiatives

Provides supervision of College students participating in internships or work-based learning programs

Completes an annual applied benchmarking project on an individual or group basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to understand sustainability issues related to the public sector and the impact on individual decision making

Ability to research, write and complete grant applications with associated reporting, budgeting, and evaluation requirements

Ability to use current web-based technology and social media platforms

Excellent interpersonal skills and work well with others
 
Able to maintain records accurately and meet deadlines consistently
 
Excellent organizational skills
 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 
Intermediate skills in MS Office products
 
Requirements:
 
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in sustainability, transportation, or energy related work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Preferences:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field

Experience with sustainability and green initiatives in the public sector

Experience implementing educational programs

Experience managing grants

Training and/or certifications in Green Globes, LEED, WELL Buildings, Energy Star, TDM, PEM, CEM or other related area
