About the role

Summary

The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, profitability, and performance of a retail store. This role provides leadership to the store team while ensuring exceptional customer experience, strong sales performance, effective inventory management, and compliance with all company policies and procedures. The Store Manager sets store goals, develops strategies to meet performance targets, and maintains a clean, safe, and visually appealing retail environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations

  • Oversee daily store operations including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, merchandising, and visual standards.
  • Ensure the store is well-stocked, clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Manage point-of-sale (POS) operations, including cash handling and daily sales reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop store employees, including assistant managers and shift leads.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide regular coaching and feedback.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work culture focused on accountability and excellence.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and administer corrective action as needed.

Sales & Profitability

  • Develop and execute strategies to meet or exceed sales goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Maximize profitability through effective expense control, labor management, and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze sales trends and reports to adjust strategies and improve results.
  • Ensure staff are knowledgeable about products, promotions, and effective upselling techniques.

Customer Service

  • Maintain high standards of customer service and ensure consistent delivery by all staff.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Promote a customer-focused environment where satisfaction is a top priority.

Inventory & Merchandising

  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate timely restocking with the purchasing department.
  • Oversee product merchandising, pricing accuracy, and promotional displays.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and loss prevention activities.
  • Ensure seasonal and promotional items are displayed effectively.

Financial Accountability

  • Review financial and sales reports with the District Manager.
  • Manage payroll, scheduling, and labor costs within budget guidelines.
  • Ensure the store meets all financial and operational targets.

Marketing & Promotions

  • Collaborate with the Communications Department to implement marketing campaigns, promotions, and store events.
  • Ensure promotional signage and materials are properly displayed.
  • Develop local marketing efforts to increase store traffic and sales.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in business, retail management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in retail management or a similar leadership role.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising staff.
  • Ability to coach employees on customer service, safety, cashiering, and operations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data.
  • Proficiency with retail software and POS systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the essential duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, hear, lift, and drive. Work Environment

The Store Manager works in office, retail, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to seasonal weather conditions.
