Company Description United Against Poverty (UP) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with campuses in Orlando, Indian River County, and St. Lucie County, Florida. UP is dedicated to supporting families and individuals facing economic hardship through crisis care, case management, and transformative education. The organization provides access to food and household subsidies, employment training and placement, and personal empowerment programs. UP also connects participants with a network of collaborative social service providers to help them build sustainable, thriving lives. Volunteers play a key role in delivering these services and strengthening the impact in the community.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Volunteer role based in Coimbatore. The volunteer will support daily operations such as assisting with client intake, guiding participants through available programs, and helping staff coordinate classes, workshops, and training sessions. Responsibilities may include organizing food and household subsidy distributions, maintaining orderly and welcoming program spaces, and providing general administrative support such as data entry, filing, and phone or in-person inquiries. The volunteer will collaborate closely with team members to ensure services are delivered respectfully, efficiently, and in alignment with UP’s mission, while fostering a supportive environment for all participants.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with diverse individuals, including basic proficiency in English and local languages.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, and a commitment to maintaining a non-judgmental, inclusive environment.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks, manage schedules, and support program logistics.
- Basic administrative abilities, such as handling documents, data entry, and using common office tools or computer applications.
- Willingness to learn about social services, community resources, and UP’s programs to guide participants effectively.
- Reliability and integrity, with a consistent commitment to on-site presence and adherence to organizational policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Previous volunteer or community service experience is beneficial but not required; a strong motivation to serve communities experiencing poverty is essential.
