Company Description The U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna represents U.S. interests at seven major UN-system organizations based in Vienna, including the IAEA, UNODC, UNOOSA, and CTBTO. Mission personnel work on the front lines of multilateral diplomacy, shaping policies on nuclear non-proliferation, peaceful nuclear applications, international crime, corruption, and illicit drug threats. The Mission also engages on issues related to the peaceful use of outer space and global security. Staff collaborate closely with international partners, technical experts, and policymakers to advance shared goals and strengthen international cooperation.
Role Description This is a full-time hybrid Volunteer role based in Mumbai, with some work-from-home flexibility. The volunteer will support diplomatic and policy engagement by assisting with research on international organizations and key thematic areas such as nuclear issues, crime, and space policy. Daily tasks may include drafting summaries and briefings, preparing meeting materials, monitoring relevant news and reports, and helping maintain internal knowledge resources. The role may involve coordinating schedules, supporting event planning and outreach, and collaborating virtually with Mission staff and other stakeholders. The volunteer is expected to demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and an interest in international affairs while managing assigned responsibilities both on-site and remotely.
Qualifications
- Strong research and analytical abilities, with capacity to synthesize complex international policy and technical information clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to draft concise briefs, summaries, and correspondence.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a hybrid (Mumbai-based and remote) environment.
- Comfort with digital tools and collaboration platforms (e.g., office productivity software, online research databases, virtual meeting tools).
- Demonstrated interest in international relations, multilateral diplomacy, security, or related fields; prior academic or volunteer experience in these areas is an advantage.
- Ability to work respectfully and inclusively with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Relevant academic background (e.g., International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or related disciplines) is preferred but not mandatory.
