Roles and Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, resource pools, clusters, and datastores.
- Configure and maintain High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), and vMotion / Storage vMotion to support resilient and efficient workloads.
- Perform capacity planning and performance tuning, including CPU, memory, and NUMA awareness for enterprise environments.
- Manage ESXi host lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, and firmware coordination with minimal downtime.
- Troubleshoot complex compute-related issues and perform root-cause analysis to restore service and prevent recurrence.
- Manage and support SAN storage platforms integrated with VMware, including datastore provisioning, multipathing (NMP/PSP), and storage performance/latency analysis.
- Monitor storage health and performance, including vSAN health and performance monitoring where applicable.
- Execute Day1 and Day2 operations for VMware platforms, ensuring stable operations and adherence to VMware best practices and internal standards.
- Plan and perform patching, upgrades, and maintenance windows with minimal downtime while maintaining operational continuity.
- Monitor infrastructure health and performance using vCenter and vRealize / Aria Operations.
- Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation to ensure operational excellence and repeatability.
- Use PowerCLI or scripts to automate routine operational tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with internal standards and ensure consistent operational governance across the VMware environment.
Skills Required:
- Strong hands-on experience in VMware vSphere/ESXi administration, including cluster and host management.
- Proven expertise in managing virtualization environments with High Availability (HA), DRS, and vMotion capabilities.
- Solid understanding of SAN and storage technologies, including datastore provisioning and multipathing concepts.
- Experience in performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization across compute and storage layers.
- Ability to manage ESXi host lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, and firmware coordination.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for resolving complex infrastructure issues.
- Familiarity with vSAN architecture, health monitoring, and performance optimization (where applicable).
- Experience with automation using PowerCLI or scripting to improve operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools such as vCenter and vRealize / Aria Operations.
- Understanding of enterprise IT governance, compliance, and operational best practices.
- Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Education:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV) (Required)
- VMware vSAN Specialist (Preferred)
Storage vendor certifications (NetApp, Dell, HPE, Pure, etc.) (Preferred)
