Role Description The VMC Operator role at Smart Tooling Solutions is a full-time, on-site position based in Kundrathur, Chennai. The individual in this role will set up, operate, and monitor Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs) to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and process sheets. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing tools and fixtures, loading and unloading workpieces, performing basic machine offsets, and verifying dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments. The VMC Operator will also check surface finishes, maintain machine cleanliness, follow safety procedures, and report any equipment or quality issues to supervisors. Collaboration with the production and quality teams to meet daily targets and maintain documentation of work performed is an important part of this role.
Qualifications
- Practical experience operating CNC or VMC machines, including setup, basic programming or offset adjustments, and routine maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and technical specifications for machining operations.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Strong awareness of workplace safety practices, machine handling procedures, and adherence to quality standards on the shop floor.
- Basic understanding of cutting tools, tooling selection, and machining parameters for different materials (e.g., metals, alloys).
- Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to detect and communicate deviations or machine issues promptly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, follow instructions, and collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Relevant technical qualification or certification in machining, mechanical engineering, or a related trade; prior experience in a similar role is preferred.
