About The Hosteller
The Hosteller started in 2015, when backpacker hostels weren't a category in India yet. Seventy-plus properties later, we're the country's largest self-operated hostel chain — and we've never really sold beds. We sell the common room at 11pm, the trek someone talks you into, the table that had four people and now has seven. Belonging is the product. The whole brand runs on one line: go meet your people.
Role overview
Carry the visual layer the content engine runs on, and use AI to make one designer produce what a team used to. Content is The Hosteller's primary acquisition channel, not a support function. The studio ships every day across 75 hostels, and most of what ships needs a designed surface on it.
The volume is beyond what any designer can hand-make, so this seat is expected to build the workflows that close the gap: AI generation for imagery and variants, and automations that take the repetitive work off the desk entirely.
The brand system is set by the senior designer. This role applies to it, and owns how fast and how far it can be applied. The measure is not how many files you made, but how much output the system can produce with you in it.
Responsibilities
Design output
- Design social graphics, carousels, story frames and static assets at volume
- Build campaign key visuals and launch assets in support of the senior
- Produce decks, collateral and property-level assets to the system already set
- Adapt one idea across every format and aspect ratio it needs to run in, without the idea weakening
AI and automation
- Use current AI image and design tools (Midjourney, Firefly, Nano Banana, Seedream, Flux, Photoshop generative) for imagery, variants, extends, clean-ups and concepting, and keep the output on-brand
- Build automations and agent workflows that remove repetitive design work: bulk resizing and reformatting, property-level and language variants, template population from a sheet or feed, first-pass asset generation
- Own the AI stack for design: evaluate tools as they shift, decide what earns a place in the workflow, and retire what doesn't
- Document the workflows so they survive you, and bring the rest of the pod onto them
- Hold the quality bar on anything AI-generated. The test is whether it holds as brand work, not whether it was fast or novel
System and consistency
- Work to the senior's visual system and templates, holding the system rather than drifting
- Keep output on-brand across social, campaign and digital surfaces so 75 locations read as one brand rather than 75 feeds
- Extend templates for new formats when briefed, and flag gaps in the system rather than working around them
Pipeline
- Keep the graphic-asset pipeline flowing so editors are never waiting on an overlay, a frame or a title treatment
- Coordinate with editors and the strategy fork on hand-offs, formats and timing
- Maintain the shared design asset library so the team is not rebuilding the same asset twice
Qualifications
- 5+ years in brand or digital design at a content-led consumer brand, agency or studio, with a portfolio strong on both identity work and social output
- A system held across many surfaces, rather than a folder of individually nice pieces
- Real command of AI image and design tools, with shipped work made using them, not just experimentation
- Has built or run automations or agent workflows for creative output: batch generation, template automation, API or no-code pipelines (Make, n8n, Zapier, Figma plugins, scripting, or equivalent)
- Fluent in Figma and the Adobe suite
- Technical enough to wire tools together and debug a workflow that breaks, without needing engineering for every change
- Fast and consistent under a daily load, with strong first-pass quality so work does not come back twice
- Disciplined about templates and libraries; treats a system as something to hold, not to improve unasked
- Designs for a young travel audience without trying too hard
