Video Journalist

The role combines journalistic rigour and technical video editing. You should be able to instantly recognise must-have video content and be able to turn that footage into a professional package for our clients - and at speed! If you can watch a video file and see exactly which part is the most valuable from a visual point of view; the worthiest of highlighting; and the most desirable acquisition for media outlets aiming to draw their audience attention - then we want to hear from you. In a tough, crowded - but often homogenous - media market, Viory seeks to showcase and empower voices from the Global South at an international level, providing clients with unique materials - and the complete picture of global and regional affairs for their audience. Familiarity with this geographical, geopolitical, historical and developmental concept, combined with current events in and around the Global South is therefore essential for the position. Main Tasks Visualising the finished product, before sourcing footage or monitoring live transmissions, cutting accurately and quickly, checking video quality and sound, and fixing any technical issues. You should also be able to recognise any potential copyright/legal issues that might arise. Generating impactful headlines, transcribing and/or translating significant soundbites, and writing precise, legally sound text to accompany the package, swiftly conveying to our clients not just the content but why it's essential to their needs. You should be well-versed in being across a spectrum of renowned and lesser-known news platforms, adeptly delving into sources, while identifying and highlighting emerging stories ahead of our rivals. Utilising proficient video editing software skills, coupled with newsroom experience, to excel in a dynamic, high-pressure news environment. Your Skills A journalism or politics degree, or a relevant qualification, is essential.
