SUMMER ACADEMIC INSTRUCTORS/MENTORS
UPWARD BOUND
Vincennes University's Upward Bound Program is seeking applicants to fill up to six (6) positions for Academic Instructors/Mentors. These are temporary, part-time positions that will run from June 4, 2026, through July 17, 2026. These positions are pending continued funding from the Department of Education.
Responsibilities for the position are as follows:
- Teach Academic Classes: Literature/Composition, Mathematics (Algebra through Calculus), Laboratory Science (Biology and Chemistry) or Foreign Language. The following positions are needed: Literature/Composition (1-2), Mathematics (1-2), Science (1),and Foreign Language
- In cooperation with the Director, decide and agree upon curriculum offerings for the Instructors/Mentors' particular area.
- Write general objectives for each course of instruction. Submit a syllabus for each subject taught as well as a Pre-test and Post- test.
- Be available as needed for individual conferences with students possessing different needs or who are at different levels of attainment. During these sessions, such areas as goal setting and study skills should be explored.
- Write academic assessments on students at mid-term and at the end of program indicating level of success achieved in meeting objectives and provide assistance with completing participant educational plans.
- Conduct exit review with each student to discuss progress and ideas for improvement.
- Attend orientation and training sessions prior to summer program.
- Attend staff meetings as arranged.
- Participate in evaluation of the summer program (student and staff evaluations).
- Participate in field trips or outings as assigned by Director.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in the subject area they will be teaching. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a teaching license. Successful applicants must be capable of teaching a diverse group of students. Applications will be accepted until filled. Applicants may be reviewed concurrently with the application period.
