ROLES & RESPONSIBILITY
  • Confidently handle and restrain animals as per the ‘fear free clinic’ concept
  • Provide nursing care to hospitalised patients, including patient monitoring and health checking
  • Administer treatments including injections, tablets, fluids and blood transfusions as per the clinical guidelines
  • Perform diagnostic tests, e.g. blood sampling, urine analysis and x-rays as per the standard procedures
  • Assist in USG’s, C-arm, CT’s and MRI’s as per the SOP
  • IV canula placement and catheterization under an aseptic technique
  • Demonstrate the understanding of drug calculations, CRI's and mathematical skills
  • Demonstrate the importance of continuous monitoring for a critical patient and use of monitoring equipment
  • Prepare animals for surgery and perform some minor procedures, e.g. suturing wounds and dental hygiene
  • Monitor anaesthesia
  • Assist veterinary surgeons with preparing the patient/procedures/surgeries
  • Update current medications, allergies, and critical information for each patient
  • Review any discharge instructions with owner when requested
  • Communicate with pet parents, gaining their trust and reassuring them about their animal's treatment
  • Educate pet parents on animal health, including vaccinations, worming, flea prevention and appropriate nutrition
  • Support any candidates undertaking placements/ internships
  • Accuracy in maintaining the patient records
  • Complete knowledge and application of all processes in the department (pre-consultation questionnaire/patient management software/admission/ discharge/cremation & burial/welfare check/rebooking/fit to fly/vaccination certificate/credit policy etc.)
  • Collecting the stock from the inventory department whenever it is ready
  • All responsibilities cited under VCA (primarily executed by VCA) will be applicable for veterinary nurse as well. In absence of a VCA, the Nurse will be required to carry out those duties.
