About Alt Carbon
:Alt Carbon is a deeptech science and data company, building agri-infrastructure for climate action. We aim to make South Asia a hub for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) through technology pathways like Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar. We work with farmers and scientists across the Global South to turn underutilized land into carbon sinks
.Our flagship initiative, the Darjeeling Revival Project (DRP), is a first-of-its-kind effort to unite climate action with cultural and ecological restoration - by reviving degraded soils, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding ecosystems. This year, we also launched the Bengal Renaissance Project (BRP), a large-scale biochar program that is building a network of biomass banks, pyrolysis, and gasification plants across Eastern India, with a mission to weave hope back into the lands of India
.Rooted in science, powered by community, and driven by the belief that revivals require ambition and audacious bets, our mission is to remove 5 million metric tons of CO₂ by 2030.
About the Community vertical
Alt Carbon works directly with smallholder farmers across North Bengal to deploy carbon removal programmes - Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar. The Community vertical is the human layer that makes all of this possible. Without farmer trust, there is no deployment. Without honest relationships, there is no data. Without ground-level problem solving, there is no scale.
This team does not sit in an office and coordinate. It lives on the ground, in villages, in fields, in conversations. We are looking for someone who understands that - and who is energised by it, not exhausted by it.
Role Overview
You will lead the Community vertical end-to-end - owning farmer mobilisation, trust-building, and solving a core agricultural problem for the communities we work with. You will manage a grassroots level team and be accountable for the quality of Alt Carbon’s relationships on the ground.
This is not a coordination role. It is an ownership role. The difference matters.
What You’ll Do
1. Farmer Mobilisation
- Build and run non-CDR programmes - soil health, agri interventions, input access - that deliver direct value to farmers and establish Alt Carbon as a trusted partner in their lives
- Use these programmes as a structured top-of-funnel to onboard farmers into CDR projects (ERW, Biochar) over time
- Build a mobilisation playbook that works across geographies, not just North Bengal
- Own participation targets across both non-CDR and CDR pipelines and close the gap when behind
Outcome: Farmers enter Alt Carbon’s ecosystem through programmes that help them today — and graduate into CDR projects naturally.
2. Trust & Grievance
- Be the face of Alt Carbon at the village level - known, trusted, and accessible
- Build a grievance resolution system that is fast, fair and visible to farmers
- Ensure every farmer interaction leaves them more likely to continue, not less
Outcome: Farmer retention is high and churn is understood, not assumed.
3. Agri Problem Solving
- Identify one core agricultural problem faced by the communities we work with
- Design and deliver an intervention - working with science, ops and external partners where needed
- Measure outcomes and build it into Alt Carbon’s value proposition to farmers
Outcome: Alt Carbon is seen as a partner in farm prosperity, not just a programme deployer.
4. Team & Systems
- Manage and develop the grassroots level team - set direction, unblock execution, raise the bar
- Build community engagement systems that hold as we expand to new geographies
- Track, report and learn from everything - farmer data, participation rates, issue resolution time
Outcome: The Community vertical runs without you needing to be everywhere at once.
What We’re Looking For
- You have worked directly with farming communities - you know how trust is built and broken at the village level
- You are comfortable being on the road. Majority of your time will be in the field, not at a desk
- You think in systems - you don’t just solve problems, you eliminate the conditions that cause them
- You have high ownership - if something is broken in your vertical, you fix it before anyone asks
- You can hold relationships at scale without losing their quality
- You are genuinely curious about agriculture and farmer livelihoods - this is not just a job to you
Why Join Us
- Work at the intersection of climate action and rural livelihoods - both matter here, equally
- Build something that has never been built before - a community infrastructure for carbon removal in India
- High ownership, low bureaucracy. You will feel the impact of your decisions within weeks, not quarters
- Work closely with a team that is serious about the mission and serious about execution
