Job Title: Validation Engineer
Job Description
As a Validation Engineer, you will lead the development of a state-of-the-art system validation satellite lab and design robust automated test frameworks for complex electrical systems. You will create and integrate automation solutions that connect software, hardware, and lab instrumentation, ensuring high-coverage, system-level validation in both lab and hardware-integrated environments. This role combines hands-on technical work with cross-functional collaboration and technical leadership to enhance product quality, reliability, and release readiness.
Responsibilities
- Lead the build-out and ongoing development of the system validation satellite lab in Bengaluru, working in close coordination with the engineering team based in the United States.
- Design and deploy scalable automated test frameworks that deliver high-coverage, system-level validation of electrical systems in both laboratory and hardware-integrated environments.
- Integrate automated test solutions with lab instrumentation, including power supplies, electronic loads, grid simulators, data acquisition systems (DAQs), oscilloscopes, relays, thermal chambers, and various communication interfaces.
- Develop software for test orchestration, equipment control, data acquisition, fault injection, diagnostics, and automated reporting and visualization to streamline validation workflows.
- Build and maintain automation solutions that interface with hardware and embedded systems using field bus and other relevant communication protocols.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues spanning software, hardware, communications, and test infrastructure, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions through to closure.
- Expand and enhance the cloud data platform that supports test data management, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement in data handling and analytics.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, systems engineering, quality, and product teams to define validation requirements, improve test coverage, and support product release readiness.
- Establish, document, and promote best practices for automation architecture, code quality, test design, data management, and scalable validation processes.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technicians, helping to grow the team’s automation capabilities and strengthen engineering rigor.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python-based object-oriented programming for automation and test development.
- Hands-on experience with GoLang for building test and automation tools.
- Experience with C#/.NET for developing or integrating test and automation solutions.
- Practical knowledge of SQL for managing and querying test and validation data.
- Experience with Bash or Shell scripting to automate workflows and system-level tasks.
- Familiarity with automation-focused software design practices, including modular, scalable, and maintainable code structures.
- Working knowledge of the US residential electric grid and associated codes and requirements, especially as they relate to system-level validation and compliance.
- Ability to integrate and control lab instrumentation such as power supplies, electronic loads, grid simulators, DAQs, oscilloscopes, relays, and thermal chambers through software.
- Proven capability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues that span software, hardware, communications, and test infrastructure.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience designing and implementing automated test frameworks for electrical or embedded systems in lab environments.
- Background in system validation engineering, particularly involving Python and GoLang-based automation solutions.
- Experience interfacing automation solutions with embedded systems using field bus or similar communication protocols.
- Exposure to cloud-based data platforms for test data storage, management, and analysis.
- Experience creating automated reporting and visualization tools to communicate test results and insights.
- Demonstrated ability to define and enforce best practices for automation architecture, code quality, test design, and data management.
- Experience mentoring engineers or technicians and providing technical leadership within a validation or test automation team.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with firmware, hardware, systems, quality, and product stakeholders.
Work Environment
You will work primarily in a lab-based environment focused on system validation of electrical and embedded systems. The role involves frequent interaction with test equipment such as power supplies, electronic loads, grid simulators, DAQs, oscilloscopes, relays, thermal chambers, and various communication interfaces, all integrated through custom automation software. You will collaborate closely with globally distributed engineering teams, including colleagues in the United States, using modern software development and data management tools. The position combines hands-on work with lab instrumentation and software development in a professional engineering setting, with an expectation of standard technical workplace attire appropriate for a laboratory and office environment.
