About the role
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn about UTM and how our business is run by spending time on the production floor with supervisors, QC and the workforce
- Analyze and design sequence of operations and workflow to improve efficiencies
- Support and optimize fabrication production by reducing planned and unplanned downtime
- Support facility layout and design, equipment relocation, and layout optimization projects
- Complete 5S events and audits showing improvement in manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly areas
- Review and audit Operation Summary Sheets (OSS) to standardize processes across production and between shifts
- Spend a minimum 40% of time on the plant floor working and communicating with plant personnel
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering program or related field in the Enterprise, Alabama area
- Ability to work 10 weeks during the summer break and potentially 20 hours +/- during school year
- Flexibility to work multiple shifts
- Proficiency in a Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) software
- Effective and professional interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
- Basic statistical knowledge and ability to apply statistics to process improvement projects
- Ability to exercise influence without authority and make decisions
- Mechanical ability or background is preferred for working directly with manufacturing and fabrication tools, jigs, and equipment
- CAD Skills (3D and/or 2D) are preferred
- U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.
