CaratLane - A TATA Product
Website:

Job details:
At CaratLane, design is how trust gets built. Someone deciding on a ₹80,000 solitaire on their phone needs the same confidence they'd feel holding it under a store light. Every pixel between them and that decision is either building that confidence or quietly eroding it.
You'll own the visual and interaction layer of that journey - across our website, our app, and the tools our store teams use every day. And you'll build the design system that lets the whole team move faster without the experience fragmenting.
What you'll own
Design system
- Build a scalable, component-based design system from the ground up, or mature what exists, across web, Android, and iOS
- Define tokens, patterns, and documentation that let designers and engineers ship consistent UI faster
- Grow into governance -what enters the system, how it's versioned, how adoption spreads across squads
- Partner with frontend and design engineering on the live component library (Storybook or equivalent)
- Understand each platform's paradigms rather than flattening them - iOS, Android, desktop web, and tablet each have their own grammar
Craft
- Become the leader of UI design for our highest-traffic surfaces, and hold jewellery and luxury to the standard it deserves
- Generate pixel-perfect production assets with obsessive attention to detail
- Set the visual and interaction quality bar, and raise the work around you through review
- Micro Motion where it earns its place - micro-interactions, transitions, and how the product feels in the hand
Scale and leverage
- Use AI tools to scale design output: component variants, automated documentation, faster engineering handoff, less repetitive production work for the team
- Build AI-assisted workflows the whole team can use, not just your own shortcuts
- Work with product and engineering to validate designs against real usage data and iterate after launch
- Collab with product designers on how ux journeys can be part of visually enriched flows, including how they build AI into their process
- Represent design in cross-functional planning, and make the build-vs-reuse-from-system call
How you'll work
You'll work closely with almost everyone here - product, tech, merchandising, retail, and the CXOs. That access is real, and it comes with an expectation: bring the thinking behind the work, document your decisions, and see a feature through from inception to live.
You'll be expected to communicate proactively and persuasively - verbally and in writing. Keeping stakeholders in the loop as your work progresses isn't a nice-to-have here; it's most of what separates designers who succeed at CaratLane from those who don't.
Over time, you'll become one of the gatekeepers for experience quality before anything hits production.
A few honest things about this role
Most of what you design will not be trivial. You'll take a lot of feedback, explore a lot of dead ends, and iterate more than feels comfortable. You'll juggle several projects and help decide what gets dropped. The team is ego-free and highly collaborative, and it only works if you are too.
What you'll bring
Must-have
- A portfolio that shows meticulous visual craft - spacing, type, hierarchy, restraint
- 2–3 years in UI design, including hands-on work building or scaling a design system
- A strong instinct for colour, typography, and composition
- B2C or e-commerce experience at meaningful scale - high-traffic, conversion-driven surfaces
- Strong command of Figma: component architecture, variants, tokens, auto layout
- Practical use of AI tools (Figma AI, Claude, Midjourney, or similar) to speed up production, ideation, or documentation
- Proven consistency across web and native mobile
- Comfort with data - funnel metrics, heatmaps, and A/B results as design inputs
Good to have
- Fashion, luxury, lifestyle, or high-consideration retail experience
- Figma Motion and animation skills are brownie points (After Effects, Rive, Framer, or similar)
- Illustration or bespoke iconography
- Omnichannel exposure, where the same customer moves between store and app
- Any experience mentoring designers, however informal
