Founding UX Designer — LetAsk
Varanasi (Hybrid) · Internship / Early-Career · Stipend + Growth Path
About LetAsk
LetAsk is an early-stage mentorship platform being built in Varanasi. We connect students, job seekers, and early-stage founders with two kinds of mentors: Expert Mentors (verified professionals offering paid, structured guidance) and Junior Mentors (peers slightly ahead in their journey who share practical advice and earn coins for their sessions).
Most mentorship platforms in India are built for metro users with metro budgets. We're building for everyone else — Tier-2 and Tier-3 India, Hinglish-first, mobile-first, and affordable. We're a small founding team, pre-launch, and moving fast.
The Role
We're looking for our first designer — someone who will own the entire look, feel, and experience of LetAsk. This is not a role where you'll polish one screen inside a big design team. You'll shape the product from the ground up, working directly with the founders.
This role is adaptive by design: we're open to final-year students, recent graduates, or self-taught designers with a strong portfolio. What matters is your work, not your resume.
What You'll Actually Work On
- Chat-first mentorship UX — designing conversation flows, session states, and feedback screens for our core text-chat experience
- Instant Connect — our Ola/Uber-style mentor matching queue, including waiting states, real-time status, and fallback flows
- Onboarding — helping a first-time user from a small town describe their problem and trust a stranger enough to ask for help
- Mentor profiles & trust signals — reviews, badges, verification marks, and the coin/reward system for Junior Mentors
- Mobile-first, Hinglish-friendly design — most of our users will be on budget Android phones with patchy internet; the design has to respect that
- Design system — building and maintaining our component library and brand guidelines as the product grows
What We're Looking For
- A portfolio that shows how you think, not just how things look — case studies, redesigns, or personal projects all count
- Comfort with Figma (or a willingness to switch to it)
- Ability to sketch user flows and wireframes quickly, test them, and throw them away without ego
- Basic understanding of mobile-first and responsive design
- Curiosity about users who are not like you — you'll be designing for people in small towns, first-generation graduates, and non-fluent English speakers
- Clear communication — you can explain why you made a design choice in simple words
No degree required. Design, HCI, or related education is nice, but a strong portfolio beats a certificate every time.
Bonus Points (Not Required)
- You've designed for chat apps, marketplaces, or edtech products
- You've done any user research — even informal interviews with friends count
- You understand Hindi/Hinglish and the cultural context of North Indian users
- You've shipped something real — a live site, an app, a college project people actually used
What You Get
- Founding designer title — your work becomes the face of the product
- Direct access to founders — no layers, no approvals chain, your ideas ship in days
- Stipend: (to be finalised based on experience)
- Growth path: as LetAsk grows, this role grows with it — into a full-time position with a competitive package
- Real portfolio material — end-to-end ownership of a live product is worth more than years of small tasks
- Certificate + letter of recommendation for interns
Details
- Location: Varanasi preferred (hybrid friendly — we care about output, not attendance)
- Type: Internship / part-time to start, with a path to full-time
- Duration: Minimum 3 months commitment
- Start: Immediate
How to Apply
Send us:
- Your portfolio (Behance, Figma link, personal site — anything works)
- 2–3 lines on one app you use daily and one thing you'd redesign in it (this matters more than a cover letter)
