About the Role
We are looking for an experienced US Tax Manager to lead US tax compliance and advisory engagements, manage a team of tax professionals, and serve as a key point of contact for clients. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience across individual, business, partnership, corporate, trust, and other major US federal and state tax forms, along with excellent client communication and team-management skills.
This role requires someone who can independently review complex tax returns, resolve technical tax issues, manage deadlines, mentor team members, and communicate confidently with US-based clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the preparation and review of US federal and state tax returns.
- Demonstrate hands-on knowledge of major US tax forms, including:
- Form 1040 – Individual Tax Returns
- Form 1065 – Partnership Returns
- Form 1120 – C-Corporation Returns
- Form 1120-S – S-Corporation Returns
- Form 1041 – Estate & Trust Returns
- Form 990 – Nonprofit Organization Returns
- Related schedules, supporting forms, and state tax filings.
- Review complex tax returns for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and tax-saving opportunities.
- Handle US federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements.
- Research and resolve complex US tax technical issues.
- Ensure all tax filings are completed accurately and within applicable deadlines.
- Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and ensure timely delivery.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Conduct client meetings and communicate tax matters, requirements, recommendations, and potential issues clearly.
- Respond to client queries and provide practical tax solutions.
- Review work prepared by team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Lead, mentor, train, and manage a team of US Tax professionals.
- Allocate work based on team capacity, complexity, and deadlines.
- Monitor team performance, productivity, quality, and turnaround time.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices to improve tax preparation and review processes.
- Stay updated on changes in US tax laws, IRS regulations, tax forms, and filing requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and senior management to resolve client and tax-related issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- 6+ years of relevant US Tax experience, preferably with experience in a US CPA firm or accounting/tax services environment.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing multiple types of US tax returns.
- Comprehensive knowledge of US federal and state taxation.
- Strong experience with 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, 990, and related tax forms and schedules.
- Proven team-handling/people-management experience.
- Strong experience in US client communication and client relationship management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and tax research skills.
- Ability to independently handle complex tax engagements and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, EA, or other relevant US tax/accounting certification is preferred.
- Experience working directly with US-based clients and CPA firms.
- Experience with tax software such as CCH Axcess, UltraTax, ProSeries, Lacerte, Drake, or similar platforms.
- Experience with offshore US tax teams and US accounting outsourcing environments.
- Strong knowledge of IRS procedures and tax research resources.
