Jive Jar LLC is a U.S.-based company building technology products for the U.S. market.
Our Product Division is developing an AI-first, offline-capable restaurant point-of-sale and operations platform for independent restaurants and small multi-location groups.
The platform will support:
- Point-of-sale terminals
- Kitchen and customer-facing displays
- Payments, tips, refunds, and reconciliation
- QR and online ordering
- Merchant back-office operations
- Device and store management
- Offline transaction processing
- AI-assisted restaurant operations
Because restaurants cannot stop operating when the internet goes down, the platform must continue processing essential workflows offline and synchronize safely when connectivity returns.
About the role
We are hiring a hands-on Lead Software Engineer to lead the engineering team and build the technical foundation of the platform.
This is an engineering leadership role with substantial coding responsibility. You will guide technical execution, mentor engineers, make architecture decisions, review critical implementations, investigate production failures, and write and run production-grade code.
You will own delivery—not only architecture or planning—and help take the product from early-stage development through production readiness and a live customer pilot.
You should be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve, priorities must be balanced, and technical decisions directly affect product delivery.
What you will lead and build
- Lead the engineering team’s day-to-day technical execution and delivery.
- Translate product requirements into architecture, implementation plans, production code, and reliable releases.
- Build TypeScript and Node.js backend services, REST APIs, and event-driven workflows.
- Design distributed, offline-first transaction and synchronization systems.
- Design a secure, scalable, multi-tenant PostgreSQL architecture.
- Implement append-only event and transaction-processing models.
- Build idempotency, retry, deduplication, replay, recovery, and reconciliation controls.
- Handle concurrency, duplicate requests, delayed messages, partial failures, and out-of-order webhooks.
- Integrate payment creation, merchant onboarding, tips, refunds, webhook processing, and financial reconciliation.
- Ensure retries, device reconnects, and repeated requests cannot create duplicate financial transactions.
- Build and guide the development of merchant back-office and QR-ordering applications.
- Define transaction, tax, pricing, discount, tip, and refund business rules.
- Establish engineering standards for code quality, security, observability, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
- Implement monitoring and diagnostics using services such as Sentry and Amazon CloudWatch.
- Build property-based, simulation, and failure-injection tests for transactional workflows.
- Define integration contracts for Android POS applications, payment terminals, printers, and other restaurant hardware.
- Review AI-assisted code and verify its correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
- Mentor engineers, improve development practices, and help team members grow technically.
- Work closely with the Product Owner and Principal Engineer to prioritize and deliver product milestones.
- Take ownership of production readiness and support the product through its first live customer pilot.
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Previous experience leading or managing an engineering team.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, teach, and improve other engineers.
- 3+ years of production experience with TypeScript, Node.js, or a comparable backend ecosystem.
- Strong PostgreSQL, SQL, and relational data-modeling experience.
- Production experience with distributed, event-driven, offline-first, transactional, or highly available systems.
- Strong understanding of idempotency, retries, deduplication, concurrency, ordering, and data consistency.
- Experience designing and operating production REST APIs and webhook integrations.
- End-to-end payment-provider integration experience, including payment creation, refunds, webhook processing, and reconciliation.
- Experience designing secure multi-tenant SaaS applications.
- Experience testing complex transactional or financial business logic.
- Experience taking ambiguous product requirements through design, implementation, testing, release, and production support.
- Experience taking an early-stage product to a live pilot or production launch.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted or agentic coding tools such as Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent tools.
- Ability to review AI-generated code critically rather than accepting generated output without verification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work full-time from our Hyderabad office.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in restaurant POS, retail, commerce, fintech, logistics, or ERP systems.
- Production experience with AWS.
- Experience with event sourcing or append-only event logs.
- Experience with property-based, simulation, chaos, or failure-injection testing.
- Experience with Next.js, Fastify, tRPC, or similar TypeScript frameworks.
- Working familiarity with Kotlin and Android integration boundaries.
- Experience integrating POS hardware, printers, customer-facing displays, or payment terminals.
- Experience with semi-integrated payment architectures.
- Experience working in an early-stage product company or startup environment.
