General Overview

We are hiring peer facilitators to create an inclusive environment and help students access their full academic potential in introductory STEM courses.

The Peer Facilitator program shares UW Bothell’s values of inclusion and diversity as core components of our mission to support students and educators within the UW Bothell community. We are looking for Peer Facilitators who can serve as mentors and role models to students from groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields, including women, people of color, and first generation students.

Peer facilitator positions are for undergraduate students only.  These positions are eligible for work study.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Peer Facilitators are responsible for regular communication with the faculty member teaching the course and report their weekly hours in Workday. Peer Facilitators’ responsibilities may include (depending on instructor and course):

  • Attending weekly lectures

  • Facilitating group work (in class)

  • Facilitating study/review sessions

  • working with students individually or in small groups

  • connecting with other Peer Facilitators

  • Holding office hours

  • assisting with grading

  • Submitting weekly reports 

  • Email outreach to students (via early alerts-Navigate)

  • Attending Regular PF trainings

  • Ongoing meetings with faculty 

The faculty teaching the course will provide specific details about the duties related to each course and the number of allocated Peer Facilitating hours prior to the start of your appointment.

Note: To be a peer facilitator for a course, you must be available to attend each class session.

Hours per week: 4–6 per class (to be determined)

Hourly pay rate: Undergraduate teaching assistants (Peer facilitators): $17.22/hour (undergraduates only)

Estimated work period: Approximately March 28, 2022 - June 10, 2022. This position is for the Academic Year (autumn, winter, and spring quarters), and renewed quarterly based on performance, academic and conduct standing.

Priority Deadline: To be considered for a Peer Facilitator position for Spring quarter 2022, submit your application by 5:00 p.m on March 14, 2022.


Required

Be a currently registered UWB undergraduate student each quarter employed, taking at least 6 credits unless you were registered for at least 10 credits in the previous quarter.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Willing to work closely with faculty and staff via regular meetings and communication

  • Be discrete, diplomatic, and maintain confidentiality (FERPA compliant).

  • Must have have completed at least the introductory courses for the content you would like to be a Peer Facilitator for (eg. if interested in being a PF in Biology, you must have completed at least Bio I, Bio II, and Bio III.)

Note: If you are or will be working elsewhere on campus, be aware that students are limited to working a combined total of 19.5 hours per week, or 19 hours if work study, in all campus jobs when you are enrolled in classes.
