About the role

Writing CVs… putting together a cover letter… hunting for graduate roles or summer internships… these tasks can all be so overwhelming: especially when you have no idea how to start or where to look. Like many students, you may be feeling baffled by the mystical world of careers, but too anxious to ask for help from experts – and that is exactly why the Peer Support Assistants exist! Hi! My name is Joe, and I am a Peer Support Assistant at the Careers Service. More importantly, I am a student just like many of you, so I understand the frustration and struggles that come with applying for jobs. So, what exactly are Peer Support Assistants? The Peer Support Assistants are all students at the University! There are 20 of us, we're all from different disciplines and levels of study, and we're all here to answer your career-related questions. We know how daunting it can be to speak to a careers adviser, and that's why you have the option to chat with us first! You may be wondering – how can Peer Support Assistants help? We know how busy you can get, especially when deadlines pile up. You haven't got time to breathe… let alone schedule an appointment with a careers adviser. That's why we run drop-in sessions at the Careers Centre (5-7 Cromer Terrace) from Monday–Friday, 10am to 4pm, during term time! You don't need to make an appointment to attend these sessions, so just come on in and chat with us! During drop-in sessions, we're happy to help with anything from writing CVs and cover letters, to finding graduate schemes. We get all kinds of different questions, and we'll try to answer them to the best of our abilities. If we don't know the answer, we'll ask the careers advisers (who have a whole lot more experience than us) for you!
