Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Iowa is seeking a dynamic and skilled individual to join the team as an IT Field Service Engineer. As part of the Physical Infrastructure workgroup, this position will play a crucial role in shaping the technology landscape on our campus.
The Physical Infrastructure workgroup is focused on wiring (Layer 1 of the OSI Model). You'll be at the forefront of implementing solutions that power and connect our academic, research, and service missions at the University.
This position has a project assignment of 1 year and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as an Associate Communication Infrastructure Engineer (PIB1) with full fringe benefits.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in design, analysis, implementation, and administration of the voice, data, and video physical infrastructures required to meet established service delivery standards and customer/user needs.

Responsibilities to include (not an exhaustive list):
· Installation of cabling, services, and events on the University campuses working with in-house staff as well as student workers. This includes installation of multiple medium- to large-scale projects involving all phases of work in accordance with industry and University standards. Physical Infrastructure is focused at the wiring (OSI Layer 1) level.
· Applying basic knowledge of current and emerging technologies used in the development of University standards, including national cabling standards EIA/TIA, NEC, NFPA, and BICSI.
· Understanding and implementing design documents as provided.
Applicants must have a valid U.S. driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa's Fleet Safety requirements.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
· Experience (typically 3 months or more) supporting communication infrastructure (i.e. copper cable, fiber, mechanical, and electrical) in dedicated IT rooms, including terminating and testing Category 6, and 6a cables or other low-voltage cable systems.
· Knowledge of network cabling topologies, cross-connects, and color coding.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in both technical and non-technical environments.
· Proficient in using personal computers and Microsoft Office productivity suite software and common applications.
· Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to write and deliver clear and concise instructions, reports, and work summaries, as well as good interpersonal skills, strong customer service, and customer relation skills.
· Ability to accomplish day-to-day tasks including ascending/descending ladders, working in confined spaces, moving and transporting materials up to 50 pounds.
· Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa’s Fleet Safety requirements.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Industry certifications (EIA/TIA, NEC, NFPA, and BICSI or other.)
· Proficiency with construction techniques, and or engineering software and structured cabling.
