Duties and Responsibilities:
- *Assist with addressing various operational issues as related to CTAHR building inventory, includes assessing problems areas, analyzing, processing and coordinating remediation.
- For small remediation projects, work with in-house trades to design and oversee the work.
- *Assists with the planning, coordination of design and construction activities with CTAHR departments including off campus research stations.
- *Reviews designs, drawings, plans, and specifications of projects
- *Prepares and/or reviews the preparation of designs, specifications, sketches and studies of major and complex buildings and structures for remodeling, alteration or repairs. Execute and manage project to completion.
- *Evaluates and negotiates as required all contracts and/or modifications to contracts as submitted by design consultants and/or construction contractors.
- *Prepares and/or reviews cost and quantity estimates for projects.
- *Prepares, analyzes, and furnishes complete comprehensive appraisal of buildings and other structures.
- *Coordinates project scoping with the Campus Operations Professional Support (COPS) group on design and technical review on all projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Environmental Design, Planning or related fields or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities of planning and design; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of planning, design, and/or construction as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with planning, design, and/or construction.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and proficient in utilizing advanced computer software and digital tools for comprehensive word processing, data management, email communication, and online research.
Desired Qualifications:
- Some working knowledge of planning and design processes, such as at the University of Hawaii, CTAHR or other public sector unit.
- Experience working in the design and/or construction field, having a firm understanding of design and construction terminology, processes and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to use Bluebeam, Word, Excel and Rhino software
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive related matters including safety incidents, legal documentation, budgets, and personnel.
