Duties:Under the general joint supervision of the Hawaiian Collection Librarian and Kipuka Student Development Coordinator, provides oversight and management of activities related to the Edith Kanakaole Hawaiian Collection Vault, including archival, library, and select material culture holdings. This work is carried out in collaboration with the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center and Title III Paieie initiatives to support UH Hilo and Hawaii Community College faculty, students, and programs.
- Conducts and coordinates core archival functions, including collection inventory, accessioning, processing of backlogged materials, description, arrangement, preservation (both physical and digital), and responsible deaccessioning, in alignment with professional standards and culturally grounded practices.
- Collaborates with Hawaiian Collection staff to develop, implement, and continuously refine policies, procedures, and workflows related to the stewardship, access, and long-term sustainability of archival and library collections, ensuring alignment with best practices in archives and Indigenous data sovereignty principles where appropriate.
- Assists with establishing and enhancing physical and digital access pathways to collections through the creation of finding aids, catalog records, digital repositories, and subject/resource guides. Supports access through culturally responsive descriptions and organization practices, including the appropriate integration of Hawaiian language.
- Monitors, collects, analyzes, and reports data related to Collection use and impact, including collection counts, patron usage, research inquiries, and engagement metrics. Prepares reports and maintains accurate documentation to inform decision-making, program development, and reporting requirements for administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Works in multiple work settings and maintains a variable work schedule including nights, weekends and/or holiday hours, as directed or required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing archival, library and/or information services; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian resources, including materials within a Hawaiian or Indigenous archival or library collection.
- Proficiency in the Hawaiian language.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications- Possession of a Master's degree in any field from an accredited university.
