About the role

This new part-time (0.4FTE) post is immediately available on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2026. The Research Services Division wishes to recruit a Research Technician to support the work of Dr Bridget Watson. This role is within the Technical Strategy & Operations part of the Division, supporting the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. This BBSRC funded post is available immediately. The successful applicant will provide technical support for microbiology and plant research. The group of Dr Watson studies the ecology and evolution of soil bacteria that interact with plants and promote their growth. The Research Technician will assist with current research characterising the genetic and phenotypic diversity of Azospirillum spp. and the specificity of plant-bacteria interactions with wheat and related cereal crops. The post will involve providing support for: a) plant work, including preparing soil, seeds and equipment for controlled plant experiments, monitoring and watering plants, and assisting with plant extraction and analysis. b) microbiology work, including preparing growth media, culturing and handling bacteria using various techniques for assays.
