A Brief OverviewA Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) is a diagnostic medical professional whom provides diagnostic medical ultrasound exams consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, maintaining patient workflow, technical aspects of equipment maintenance, and quality assessment (QA). The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self motivated to increase their level of understanding and knowledge of the field, pathologically process and advancements in ultrasound technology.
What You Will Do- Validate patient order and review relevant prior imaging
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct ultrasound exams in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures
- Consistently follow hospital policy to correctly identify patients and communicate and explain exam in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand
- Perform ultrasound examination in accordance with departmental protocols while utilizing critical thinking skills and independent judgment to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured
- Completed structured reporting document, identify exam limitations, assure images are uploaded to PACS and review exam with radiologist as needed
- Perform, follow protocol, and maintain competency for High Level Disinfection procedures
- Provide age-specific care to patients from neonates through geriatrics
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws ( HIPAA) and adhere to hospital policies
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators, and members of the health care team
- Maintain required credentials and licenses
- Follow proper procedure to report equipment failures
- Adhere to hospital safety and regulatory( DNV, ODH, ect) standards
Additional Responsibilities- Provides training, mentorship, and preceptorship to current and new technologists and students within the modality
- Participates in regulatory activities including but not limited to environment of care rounding
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and interventional procedures specific to area
- Participate in committees and process improvement projects as assigned by supervisor

- Complete training before deadline as required by hospital leadership
