Summary:
Responsible for upholding and improving manufactured product and process quality by analyzing data using leading-edge quality improvement tools and techniques, ensuring compliance with UIC’s Quality Management System and ISO 9001:2015 standards. Be on the leading-edge converting paper-based quality acceptance criteria (QAC) to our new MES, to identify quality and efficiency improvements.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Conversion and maintenance of existing QAC (quality acceptance criteria) in the MES (manufacturing Execution System).
- Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of manufactured products.
- Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
- Establishes programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of products.
- Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures, reporting results to team members and management as requested.
- Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- May collaborate with staff engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
- Troubleshoots quality and performance issues on the manufacturing floor.
- Active member of New Product Introduction (NPI) teams with an eye towards validation of quality and performance standards.
- May compile and write training materials and conduct training sessions on quality control activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS Degree in engineering or other technical discipline and 2-4 years’ experience, preferred.
- Relevant 2 year degree with 6+ years’ experience or HS diploma with 8+ years’ experience, considered.
- Professional experience writing equipment test plans within a manufacturing environment is desired.
- Position requires the ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.
- Clear communication with fellow colleagues, and in giving presentations.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is desirable.
- Strong mechanical engineering aptitude is preferred.
- Reliability Engineering background a plus.
- Prior experience with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a plus
Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:
- Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem-solving tools to continuously improve work processes.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to access and manipulate various objects, tools, or controls.
- Ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.
- Remaining stationary for extended periods and needs to be mobile enough to navigate through work areas.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally from time to time; <10%.
