About the role

As the Managing Director of Fleet Engineering, you will provide strategic leadership and direction to the Engineering team with a focus on continuously improving the safety, reliability, and performance of United's growing aircraft fleet. In this role, you will oversee the technical aspects of fleet engineering, including maintenance, modifications, and engineering support for active aircraft. Additionally, you will play a key role in fleet planning, providing engineering support for fleet strategy and new aircraft acquisitions. You will also lead a team of subject matter experts, providing direction and guidance to ensure the successful execution of all fleet engineering initiatives. Responsibilities: - Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Fleet Engineering team, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence - Manage the technical execution of fleet engineering programs, including maintenance, modifications, and engineering support for the active fleet - Partner with Fleet Planning to provide engineering support for fleet strategy and new aircraft acquisitions - Lead a team of subject matter experts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability - Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry best practices - Manage the Fleet Engineering budget and resources to optimize productivity and cost-effectiveness - Represent the Fleet Engineering function on key leadership teams and initiatives Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field - 15+ years of experience in aircraft engineering, maintenance, or fleet management, with progressive leadership responsibilities - Strong technical expertise in aircraft systems, maintenance, and engineering - Demonstrated experience in leading high-performing teams and driving continuous improvement - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders - Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in aviation - Proven track record of managing budgets and resources to optimize productivity and cost-effectiveness - Willingness to travel to support operations and engage with field teams as needed
