Role Overview
We are looking to hire a responsible and experienced Unit Manager for our institutional catering / mess operations at Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience working in educational institutes, hostel mess operations, institutional catering, or large-scale food service operations. The candidate must be capable of taking complete ownership of site operations, managing teams, coordinating with the client, ensuring compliance, and maintaining service quality.
This role requires a hands-on professional who does not work with only a duty-hour mindset, but takes full responsibility for smooth site operations, client satisfaction, staff discipline, hygiene, documentation, and daily issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Take complete ownership of day-to-day mess / institutional catering operations at the site.
- Manage kitchen, service, store, housekeeping, and support teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure timely and quality food service as per approved menu, meal timings, and client expectations.
- Maintain strict compliance with FSSAI guidelines, hygiene standards, food safety norms, and company SOPs.
- Coordinate with client representatives, institute administration, and internal operations team for daily requirements and feedback.
- Handle student / client complaints professionally and ensure timely corrective action.
- Monitor food quality, taste, portioning, wastage control, and service standards.
- Manage staff attendance, duty rosters, grooming, discipline, and training.
- Maintain proper records for stock, consumption, attendance, complaints, audits, billing support, and daily reports.
- Coordinate with Head Office for procurement, billing, compliance, manpower, and operational updates.
- Support audits, inspections, and client reviews with proper documentation.
- Prepare reports using MS Excel and Word and draft professional emails as required.
- Ensure smooth coordination between site team, client, vendors, and Head Office.
- Take proactive action during operational issues, emergencies, shortages, or client escalations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Graduate / Diploma / Degree in Hotel Management, Catering Services, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in institutional catering, hostel mess, education institute mess, or large-scale food service operations.
- Prior experience in educational institutes will be strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of FSSAI compliance, food safety, hygiene practices, and operational SOPs.
- Good command over MS Excel, MS Word, email drafting, and basic computer operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; Hindi/Marathi communication will be an added advantage.
- Ability to manage teams, handle pressure, and resolve operational issues independently.
- Strong client-handling and coordination skills.
- Must have an ownership mindset and willingness to support operations beyond fixed duty hours when required.
- Candidate should be disciplined, proactive, detail-oriented, and accountable.

- Candidates with experience in managing mess operations in universities, colleges, hostels, or institutional campuses.
- Candidates who understand student expectations, mess committee coordination, menu compliance, and daily operational discipline.
- Candidate should be comfortable working in a site-based role and taking full responsibility for operational performance.
