Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the AVP Business Relationship Manager is a senior commercial division leadership role responsible for enterprise-level execution, people leadership, and individual production within the Credit Union’s Commercial Division. The AVP Business Relationship Manager, serves as the primary leadership partner to the Chief Commercial Officer with broad responsibility for day-to-day oversight, team leadership, and strategic execution across commercial lending, business development, portfolio management, risk, and cash management services.
This role is designed for a highly experienced commercial professional capable of leading the Commercial Services function, representing the division internally and externally, and helping translate strategic vision into execution.
Essential Functions:
Commercial Division Leadership & Oversight
- Serve as Team Leader for the Commercial Services Team, including Business Relationship Managers and commercial support professionals.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development to ensure depth of talent and leadership capability within the Commercial Division
- Assist the CCO in setting division-wide priorities, sales strategies, and performance expectations
- Support execution of the Commercial Division’s strategic plan, growth initiatives, and long-range objectives
Individual Production & Key Relationship Management
- Originate, structure, and manage small business and commercial loans, deposits, and cash management relationships
- Maintain an active portfolio of complex, high-value commercial relationships
- Serve as lead relationship manager on select strategic or high-impact business member relationships
- Model consultative, relationship-driven selling behaviors for the Commercial Team
Strategic Business Development & Market Leadership
- Partner with the CCO in shaping and executing market expansion strategies and commercial growth initiatives
- Lead or significantly influence the development and evolution of business deposit and cash management products and services
- Maintain a strong market presence and serve as a senior commercial representative within the business community
- Leverage and help scale Center of Influence (COI) relationships across the Commercial Team
Credit, Risk & Portfolio Management Leadership
- Provide senior-level credit judgment and leadership across the commercial portfolio
- Participate in complex underwriting, loan structuring, and credit recommendations
- Oversee portfolio quality, concentrations, and risk trends at both the individual and team level
- Partner with credit administration, risk management, and senior leadership to ensure sound credit practices
Cash Management & Non-Interest Income Growth
- Oversee commercial cash management strategy in partnership with treasury and operations teams
- Drive adoption of treasury products to support relationship depth, retention, and fee income growth
- Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery and onboarding of cash management solutions
Cross-Functional & Enterprise Collaboration
- Act as a senior liaison between Commercial Services and other Credit Union departments, including branches, operations, marketing, finance, and risk
- Support operational efficiency, process improvement, and scalability initiatives
- Collaborate with third-party vendors and CUSOs to enhance product offerings and service delivery
Requirements
- 7–10+ years of progressive commercial lending experience (CRE and/or C&I)
- Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred). MBA or advanced financial education a plus
- Formal training in commercial credit and risk analysis
- Proven ability to independently source, structure, underwrite, close, and manage commercial credits.
- Established COI and business network within Western or Central Massachusetts preferred
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Sound judgment and comfort operating at a senior leadership level
Summary
Hours: Full Time - Exempt
Telecommute Status: Flexible (Must be able to report to Hadley, MA as needed). Candidate will be expected to travel to various locations in Western Massachusetts (Hampshire, Hampden, Franklin, Berkshire, Worcester Counties) as business requires.
Reports to: Chief Commercial Officer
Paygrade 16, Exempt: Min: $119,447 – Mid: $149,309 – Max: $179,171 annually
