FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

Executes and supports all actions required to process and compliantly package Contact Handled, Remote Handled and Oxide TRU Wastes, this also includes Low Level, Mixed Low Level and Secondary Waste.


Required Training / Qualifications: 

All required training and qualifications for Waste Operator A: Education/Experience: AA/AS in Chemistry or related field OR a minimum of 12 years of recent, relevant and progressive waste handling experience is required with a high school diploma or high school equivalency, along with demonstrated competency in WO Trainee qualifications. 


Must be able to obtain and maintain: 

  • Site Specific Spotter Qualification
  • Site Specific Fuel Attendant Qualification
  • Crane Operations Qualification
  • Cask Processing Enclosure Operation Qualification 
  • Hoisting and Rigging Rigger Qualification
  • General Forklift Operation
  • Verification and Validation Qualification
  • Waste Operations Qualification
  • Lift Competent Person Qualification
  • Remote Handled Operations Qualification
  • Central Characterization Program (CCP) Canister 


Level Specific Responsibilities: Under general supervision:

  • Perform Glovebox, BBA, CPE and Hot Cell Waste Operations which includes waste processing of Contact and Remote Handled drums as well as Oxide and potentially energetic material Drums, radiological and PCB decontamination activities
  • Perform V & V of operating procedures after the revision process. 
  • Perform hot cell remote waste operations which include Manipulator and PAR Operations, and drum movements into and out of the area under radiological controls, remote handled waste processing , size reduction using manipulators for waste articles requiring the use of hand and portable power tools , hoisting and rigging activities and decontamination of work areas and containers.
