PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carpenter

  • Possess the knowledge to perform routine carpentry assignments including corrective maintenance on facilities which may include the following activities: build forms for concrete, erect partitions, construct studs walls, install drywall, and repair/rework both flat roof systems and pitched roofs utilizing rafters. 
  • Must be able to repair, replace, and install floor coverings, ceilings, paneling, trim and exterior as well as interior systems.
  • Must be able to perform both rough and finish carpentry work as required. 
  • Must have strong working knowledge of tools of the trade and be proficient in the safe use of both manual and power tools.
  • Must be able to work at elevated heights utilizing lifts, scaffolding, and ladders.
  •  Must be capable of using the appropriate PPE for the work being performed including full face respirators, powered air purifying respirators, typically Level C&D protective clothing, fall protection, and hearing protection.
  • Must possess the ability to function alone or as a part of a team.
  • Report unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions to supervision and/or Facility Management.
  • Work only on the systems, devices, and activities for which they are trained and authorized.

Education: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent

       

Experience:

  • Completion of a United States Department of Labor-recognized apprenticeship program (proof of completion required) in the relevant craft/trade and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the relevant trade/trade OR
  • Where one has not completed a United States Department of Labor-recognized apprenticeship program in the relevant craft/trade, a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the relevant craft/trade in an industrial and/or commercial setting.
  • Preferred previous experience in a RadWorker II setting.

  

Prior Training or Qualifications:

  • Qualification for Carpenter work is based on a combination of classroom training, formal Carpenter trade, military, college or other training, work experience and on-the-job training. Experience may be a combination of, or include formal technical related education courses, hands-on field or classroom lab work that may or may not result in licenses or certifications
  • DOE L or Q security clearance or the ability to obtain the same. 
  • Skills in specific job duties must be acquired through classroom and on-the-job training periods.  Must have ability to pass required site training (e.g., GET/Parkworker, HAZWOPER, RWII, etc.)
  • Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personal protective equipment including respiratory and hearing protection. 
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member.

Functional Requirements:

The functional requirements necessary to perform the duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and must be able to be medically qualified to wear the appropriate PPE for the work being performed including full face respirators, powered air purifying respirators, typically Level C&D protective clothing, fall protection, and hearing protection.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs., climb ladders, work at elevated surfaces, uneven surfaces, in open excavations, confined spaces, etc.
  • Ability to understand environmental, safety, and health requirements applicable to work at a DOE facility.
  • Work in indoor and outdoor activities in all weather conditions to include extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
  • Be physically able to do considerable walking, lifting, bending, stooping, crouching, carrying, etc.
  • Must be able to work in Beryllium, Mercury, and Lead contaminated facilities, and radiologically controlled environments.
