Job Description: Conceptual Design – UAV Systems
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) development team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between abstracts performance metrics and physical, flight-ready hardware. You will own the full product lifecycle of complex UAV structures, components, and payload integration systems—from conceptual sizing and 3D CAD modelling to rapid prototyping, environmental testing, and manufacturing release.
The ideal candidate has a deep passion for robotics or aerospace engineering, thrives in a fast-paced development environment, and specializes in designing highly optimized, lightweight structures that maintain exceptional structural integrity.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or a strictly relevant discipline.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of dedicated experience in product design, ideally centred around UAVs, aerospace structures, or high-performance robotics.
- CAD Mastery: Proven professional proficiency with advanced 3D CAD modelling environments—specifically SolidWorks or CATIA.
- Advanced Materials: Deep working knowledge of composite manufacturing (specifically carbon fibre layout/bonding), aerospace fasteners, and engineering plastics.
- Additive Manufacturing: Hands-on familiarity with slicing software and rapid prototyping methods using FDM, SLA, or SLS 3D printers.
- Documentation: Strong capability to build out clean Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly procedures, and technical documentation packages.
Preferred Attributes:
- Basic understanding of aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and constraints analysis for fixed-wing or multirotor aircraft.
- Experience integrating open-source flight controllers (e.g., Pixhawk) or implementing IP-rated weatherproof enclosures.
- Experience handling environmental testing standards (e.g., vibration profiles, thermal chambers, ingress protection)
