Organizational Relationships:
Report to Director of Operations or Project Manager. Lead a team of 4–10 painters including job leads, experienced painters, painters, and apprentices across commercial projects of varying scale and duration. Frequently interfaces with General Contractors, Superintendents, and client representatives on active job sites.
Basic Function:
Through personal example and principled leadership, leads all team members to achieve project-based and personal objectives on large-scale commercial work. Oversees all projects assigned to the team, including interior and exterior painting, specialty coatings, floor systems, and fireproofing applications - completing all leadership and trade responsibilities in a professional and workmanlike manner. Represents Two Dudes Painting Company with integrity in every client, contractor, and field interaction.
Experienced Painter:
Has the ability to perform all standard Experienced Painter painting functions across painting, coatings, and applicable specialty trade applications.
Specialized Knowledge & Experience:
The Commercial Team Leader is accountable for job-site safety, trade compliance, and crew performance on complex, multi-phase commercial projects. Proficient in documenting daily activities, managing job costs, and reading and interpreting blueprints and project specifications. Communicates effectively with the Administrative Project Team, General Contractors, and Superintendents regarding project progress, obstacles, scheduling, and completion timelines. Demonstrates financial leadership by understanding project revenue, labor costs, material usage, and equipment overhead. Continuously develops leadership skills with a focus on training, retention, motivation, and accountability. Exposure to specialty coatings systems (polyaspartic, epoxy, urethane) and fireproofing applications (SFRM) is valued; ongoing training provided by Two Dudes supports continued growth in these areas.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Leader:
- Demonstrates Two Dudes' Values consistently and holds all team members to the same standard.
- Leads by example - sets the tone on every job site in attitude, effort, and professionalism.
- Builds a team culture grounded in accountability, respect, and quality craftsmanship.
- Represents TDPC professionally with General Contractors, Superintendents, and client contacts.
Safety Leader:
- Acts as the primary safety, project, and people leader on all assigned commercial projects.
- Holds current OSHA 10 certification; demonstrates and enforces all applicable safety standards on site.
- Ensures team compliance with all company policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans.
- Conducts Morning Operations Huddles, reviews daily safety topics, and sets production goals.
- Identifies and addresses hazards daily - escalates issues when warranted.
- Implements and integrates policy changes issued by TDPC leadership.
- Attends all required TDPC Safety Seminars and Training Sessions.
- Reports all accidents or injuries immediately to the Director of Operations and HR; completes Accident Reports.
- Ensures proper use of PPE by all team members at all times.
Trainer and People Manager:
- Delivers direct, constructive feedback to team members to support performance and growth.
- Leads on-the-job training for painters at all experience levels.
- Coaches team members with a growth mindset - builds people up and identifies career advancement opportunities.
- Contributes to performance documentation for reviews and Learning Pathways.
- Manages crew dynamics effectively across multi-trade, multi-phase job sites.
Project Manager:
- Serves as the primary on-site contact for General Contractors, Superintendents, and clients.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and project specifications to plan and execute work accurately.
- Manages all project management duties for assigned jobs - scheduling, sequencing, punch lists, and completion walkthroughs.
- Tracks job costs, material usage, labor hours, and equipment to support revenue and margin goals.
- Communicates daily with the Administrative Project Team on job status, scheduling, and upcoming needs.
- Conducts regular quality control sweeps and end-of-project walkthroughs with clients or GC representatives.
- Maintains production timelines across long-term, multi-phase commercial projects.
Painter:
- Performs and oversees surface preparation and application of paints, coatings, and finishes.
- Operates and maintains equipment including sprayers, aerial lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, and scaffolding.
- Ensures proper setup, cleanliness, and teardown of all job sites.
- Participates in quality control and end-of-project checks.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven track record as an experienced commercial painter with a portfolio of completed projects.
- Current OSHA 10 Certification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.
- Proficiency in brush, roll, and spray application techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of painting systems, surface prep, sequencing, and job-site safety.
- Excellent communication skills - able to interface with GCs, superintendents, clients, and crew.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate aerial lifts, boom lifts, and scaffolding.
Strongly Preferred:
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience managing commercial projects with General Contractors or Superintendents.
- Familiarity with job costing, labor tracking, and project financials.
A Plus:
- EPA Lead RRP Certification.
- Experience with specialty coatings systems (polyaspartic, epoxy, urethane, SFRM).
- Forklift certification.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
