QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent; ESSA certification required for all positions (Associates or higher degree, minimum of 72 college quarter credits, or ETS Test), excluding bus supervision duties only. Strong written and verbal English skills. WA State driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between schools if required. Right response training required for all positions. First Aid/CPR Certification required for health room duties, may be required for those with Special Education, playground, and behavior support duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with individuals or small groups to implement accommodations and support as defined by IEP for academics, recreational activities, etc.
- Attend to all student personal care needs as assigned throughout the educational environment (this might require transferring to and from wheelchair, toileting, diapering, personal hygiene and feeding)
- Provide motor therapy activities as requested and assigned by nurse, therapist, or teacher
- Work with severe needs and medically fragile children
- Recognize individual student needs and provide appropriate strategies and intervention
- Address discipline in a positive manner per site procedure
- Act as a member of a student de-escalation/restraint team
- Assist classroom teachers
- Provide library assistance
- Supervision of playground, lunchroom, and bus
- Health room duties; lead or back up health room with appropriate training
- Provide small group/individual instruction for a variety of academics, as defined by student needs
- Operate bus lifts; load and unload wheelchairs; secure students in restraints, lap belts, etc.
- Monitor and maintain records and reports; correct and chart work
- Prepare materials and keep records as related to IEP
- Duplicate and construct site material; order equipment (e.g. health room, playground, library)
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information
- Establish and maintain excellent rapport with visitors, staff, parents, students and administrators
- Foster and maintain a safe and orderly environment
- Possess knowledge of and enforce school district policies and procedures
- As requested, attend planning meetings with teachers and special service staff
- Communicate effectively with students, parents and the school community
- Perform other paraprofessional, non-custodial, job related duties as assigned
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
- Experience working with children
- Sufficient strength, balance and mobility to safely transfer a motorically disabled person of 100 pounds in and out of a wheelchair with assistance
- Have the physical ability to carry students (up to 75 lbs) and ability to climb or jump from emergency exits
- Ability to work with children who have a variety of disabilities
- Trained in de-escalation/restraint of students
- Willingness to be trained in areas of duty and to learn new skills
- Enthusiasm and appreciation of the unique individual characteristics of students
- Ability to work independently, work as a team player, respond to emergency situations, work in a stressful environment
- Effective interpersonal/communication skills
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment and input data and other information into school programs
