Trinity Episcopal School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Lower School Chaplain and Dean of Community Life for the 2026–2027 academic year. Reporting directly to the Head Chaplain and serving as a member of the Lower School administrative team, this individual will play a vital role in nurturing the spiritual life of the Lower School community.
The Lower School Chaplain and Dean of Community Life will provide leadership in the areas of liturgical planning and worship, faith studies instruction, pastoral care, service-learning programs, Tribes activities, and initiatives focused on social justice and diversity.
This role supports and advances the mission, values, and policies of Trinity Episcopal School, helping to foster a compassionate, inclusive, and faith-centered environment for students, faculty, and families.
Job Description
The Lower School Chaplain/Dean of Community Life responsibilities include the following:
Tend to the spiritual life of the lower school
- Identify opportunities to enhance the spiritual development of the students and faculty
- Assist in building a community of spirituality that lives into the tenets of our Honor Code and Episcopal Identity
Plan and lead the liturgical life
- Plan LS chapel topics and themes with the Head Chaplain and Head of Lower School in consideration of the church calendar, school calendar/service learning, and the holidays of other faith traditions
- Ensure chapel talks should be delivered by a variety of community members, including all chaplains and guest speakers
- Support other chaplains in delivering grade-level chapels and community chapel
Teach Faith Studies classes
- Work with the chaplain team and division heads to develop, implement, and map a faith studies curriculum K-8 with a particular focus on grades third through fifth grade.
- Teach faith studies classes as assigned by the Head Chaplain and the Academic Team.
Lead the 12 Tribes of Trinity program in the lower school
- Organize Tribes' activities with the help of the Tribes' steering committee, division head, academic dean, and lower school counselor
- Ensure the Tribes' program and three-year rotation includes activities focused on living into our Honor Code, spiritual development, and social-emotional development
- Assign students to Tribes in collaboration with the Lower School Leadership Team
Provide and organize pastoral care
- Work with the CARES Team and the division head to care for the needs of students, families, faculty, and staff.
Develop and lead service-learning initiatives
- Work with the other chaplains to ensure the lower school students are engaged in regular, appropriate, and meaningful service learning experiences connected to our grade level partners
- Facilitate and coordinate service efforts and projects for the lower school
