Treaty Underwriter

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Treaty Underwriter to lead and develop our treaty reinsurance portfolio across India. This is a senior, hands-on role for a proven treaty underwriter with strong track-record and market credibility, sound technical judgment, and the ability to balance growth with disciplined risk management.
Main Responsibilities
• Lead underwriting, structuring, and renewal of treaty reinsurance programs across assigned regions
• Manage a diversified portfolio including but not limited to Property, Casualty, Motor, Engineering, and Energy treaties
• Drive portfolio strategy in line with underwriting guidelines, capital appetite, and profitability targets
• Lead technical and commercial negotiations with cedents and brokers.
• Review loss experience, portfolio performance, and exposure trends, working closely with actuarial and claims teams
• Represent underwriting positions to senior management and internal committees
• Support and mentor underwriting team members, contributing to talent development and technical depth
Experience & Technical Requirements
• 9 years of reinsurance experience, with preference in treaty underwriting
• Strong technical understanding of treaty structures, pricing fundamentals, loss analysis, and wordings
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead renewals and manage complex negotiations
• Strong understanding of regional regulatory environments and market dynamics
Commercial & Market Profile
• Established relationships with major international and regional brokers
• Strong commercial judgment with a disciplined underwriting mindset
• Ability to balance strategic market support with technical underwriting.
• Confident decision-maker able to challenge market practice when required
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Engineering, or a related field
• Professional insurance qualifications (ACII or equivalent) are strongly preferred
