Looking for a fun summer job or a seasonal part-time gig? Join our team as a Parks and Recreation Assistant! In this role, you’ll help create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for a variety of recreational programs. This position will work directly with our summer camp programs to perform work assisting with the oversight of recreational activities, management of campers, and facility use. You’ll support a wide range of community programs and help ensure our facilities operate smoothly—all under the limited supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

- Responsible for assisting, supervising, and inspecting various recreational programs.
- Assists recreation staff with the evaluation of programs.
- Assists department and county staff with special events and activities.
- Responsible for preparing the recreation center for programs and for rental use.
- Provides Park and Recreation information to the general public.
- Patrols facility ensuring the safety of program participants and the proper use of equipment and facility.
- Responsible for the general maintenance, cleaning and inspection of the recreation center; including gymnasium, activity room, lobby, kitchen, and restrooms.
- Provides support to the department and staff as needed.
- Represents the department and county well by offering quality customer service to the general public including internal and external customers while bringing a positive attitude to work each and every day.
Minimum Qualifications
General knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation work.
General knowledge of one or more phases of community recreation activities.
Ability to provide working leadership to a group of recreation participants.
Skilled in the use of instruments, tools or other equipment used in recreation programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with County officials, associates, activity participants and the general public.
Strong knowledge of basic computer programs such as MSWord, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and the ability to work in and learn various databases.
Other Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Required
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven ability to provide quality customer service.
Must be familiar with recreation programs including but not limited to knowledge of various sports and their basic rules.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently requires standing and walking and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; this work does not require any specialized sensory utilization; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Successful completion of SBI background check with required fingerprinting by Sheriff Office. (Instructions issued by HR at pre-boarding)
