Role Description
Job Purpose
To carry out accurate route survey, detailed survey, and profile survey for EHV transmission lines, ensuring technically feasible, cost‑optimized, and statutorily compliant alignments for bidding, construction, and execution stages.
Key Responsibilities
1. Route & Reconnaissance Survey
- Conduct reconnaissance and preliminary route surveys using topographical maps, satellite imagery, and field visits.
- Identify least‑cost, shortest feasible route considering:
- Right of Way (RoW)
- Forest, railway, highway, river, urban & defense constraints
- Evaluate multiple route options and prepare comparative route assessment reports.
2. Detailed Survey & Profiling
- Carry out detailed survey using Total Station, DGPS, Theodolite, and Auto Level.
- Perform longitudinal profile survey and tower spotting as per PLS‑CADD / utility norms.
- Collect accurate data for:
- Ground clearances
- Span lengths
- Crossing details
- Prepare tower schedule, profile drawings, and alignment sheets.
3. Crossing & Statutory Coordination
- Identify and document crossings such as:
- Railways, National/State Highways, Rivers, Canals, Pipelines, HT/LT lines
- Support preparation of crossing proposals for:
- Railways
- NHAI / State PWD
- Power utilities
- Assist in forest diversion proposals and RoW documentation inputs.
4. Bid‑Stage & Pre‑Construction Support
- Provide survey inputs for cost estimation during bid stage.
- Support technical feasibility analysis of alignments proposed in RfP.
- Assist in preparing Assumptions & Risk Register related to routing and terrain.
- Validate survey data for appointed date conditions.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and submit:
- Route maps
- Survey reports
- Alignment drawings
- Tower schedules
- Maintain proper survey records, field books, and digital data backups.
- Coordinate with design teams for review and approval of survey outputs.
6. Site Coordination & Safety
- Coordinate with local authorities, landowners, and village representatives during survey.
- Ensure safety compliance while carrying out field survey in difficult terrain.
- Guide survey assistants and trainees.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of EHV/HV transmission line standards (CBIP, IS, CEA).
- Hands‑on expertise in:
- DGPS
- Total Station
- Auto‑level instruments
- Understanding of RoW, forest, and environmental constraints.
- Familiarity with PLS‑CADD / survey data input formats.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / ITI / Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience Requirement
- 3–10 years of experience in Transmission Line Survey
- Mandatory experience in TBCB projects (ISTS / State TBCB preferred).
- Experience in 400 kV / 220 kV / 765 kV lines will be an added advantage.

- Project sites across India (extensive field work required).
