Position Overview
- Role: Risk & Transaction Monitoring Analyst (Financial Crime Compliance / Fraud Operations)
- Experience Required: 1 – 4 years
- Industry Preference: Digital/Retail Banks, Payment Aggregators (PAs), Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) Issuers, FinTechs, or Global Capability Centers (GCCs) of International Banks
- Location: Mumbai
About the Role
We are seeking an investigative, detail-oriented, and highly alert analyst to join our Transaction Monitoring team. In this role, you will be the frontline defense against financial crime, money laundering, terrorist financing, and digital transaction fraud.
Operating in a high-velocity transaction environment, you will review real-time and batch alerts generated by our risk engines. Your core responsibility is to separate normal financial behavior from suspicious activities, investigate complex transaction trails, and ensure absolute compliance with statutory RBI and FIU-IND guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Alert Investigation & Case Management
- End-to-End Alert Review: Analyze system-generated alerts triggered by unusual transaction velocity, structural anomalies (smurfing/structuring), high-risk cross-border flows, or deviations from historical customer profiles.
- Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT): Conduct deep-dive investigations using internal data pools, media searches, and public databases to build a comprehensive risk narrative for flagged accounts.
- Disposition Accuracy: Effectively close false positives with robust, audit-defensible documentation, while escalating genuinely suspicious cases for regulatory reporting.
2. Fraud Detection & Risk Mitigation
- Digital Fraud Tracking: Monitor real-time transaction streams to detect and mitigate active digital fraud vectors including UPI mule account operations, phishing scams, account takeovers (ATO), and chargeback manipulation.
- Account Freezing & Liaison: Coordinate the swift temporary freezing of suspicious accounts or funds in accordance with internal risk thresholds or notices from law enforcement authorities (e.g., Cyber Cell mandates).
3. Regulatory Compliance & Filing
- Drafting Regulatory Reports: Prepare high-quality, comprehensive summaries that form the basis of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Cash Transaction Reports (CTRs) submitted to FIU-IND.
- Audit Trail Maintenance: Ensure every investigation step, customer communication, and decision rationale is meticulously logged to withstand scrutiny during internal audits and RBI regulatory inspections.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Degree: Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Criminology, Finance, Law, Banking, or a related field.
- Experience: 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience in Transaction Monitoring (TM), AML Investigations, Sanctions Screening, or Fraud Risk Operations within a financial institution or fintech setup.
Technical & Functional Knowledge
- Typology & Red Flag Mastery: Deep understanding of money laundering methods and digital payment fraud red flags (e.g., rapid movement of funds across multiple newly opened UPI handles).
- Systems Familiarity: Experience using enterprise transaction monitoring software (e.g., Actimize, Mantas, SAS, NetReveal, or proprietary real-time risk engines).
- Data Tool Literacy: Proficient in MS Excel (vlookups, filters, basic pivots) to parse transaction sheets. Basic exposure to SQL for pulling specific historical transaction records is highly advantageous.
Soft Skills
- Investigative Mindset: An innate skepticism and logical deduction capability—the ability to stitch together unrelated data points to uncover an illicit pattern.
- Strong Draftsmanship: Excellent written English skills; ability to draft clear, concise, and objective factual summaries for complex financial investigations.
Preferred Certifications (Highly Valued)
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
- Certifications in AML/KYC from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF).
What We Offer
- Exposure to cutting-edge, high-throughput digital transaction risk architectures.
- Clear career growth pathways into Risk Policy, Compliance Management, or Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) leadership.
- Competitive industry compensation, shift allowances (if applicable), and comprehensive medical coverage.
