🧸 Toy Product Designer — Social Emotional Learning
📍 Mumbai, India | Full-Time | Early-Stage Startup
You studied toy design at FIT or Otis. You learned about child psychology, play mechanics, developmental milestones, and what it takes to bring a toy from concept to a child's hands.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, you've thought about coming home.
Here's your reason.
We're building India's first dedicated Social Emotional Learning (SEL) toy brand — products that help children aged 3–10 develop emotional intelligence, resilience, empathy, and self-regulation through play. Not flashcards. Not apps. Beautifully designed, clinically grounded physical toys that do something that matters.
SEL toys are a proven category in the US and Europe. In India, it's virtually untouched. You'd be the first.

What you'll actually do:
→ Lead product development from concept to prototype to production
→ Apply your understanding of child development and play theory to every design decision
→ Work directly with our Child Development Advisor (a practising child psychologist) to ensure every product is age-appropriate and clinically sound
→ Own the design language of the brand — this is a founding role
→ Manage relationships with contract manufacturers across India
──────────────────────
Who we're looking for:
✔ BFA in Toy Design from FIT (NYC) or Otis College (LA) — or equivalent programme with a strong toy/play focus
✔ 2–4 years of experience, ideally at a developmental or educational toy company (Lovevery, Melissa & Doug, Learning Resources, LeapFrog, or similar)
✔ Deep understanding of age-banding, play patterns, and child safety standards
✔ Comfortable working across hard toys, soft toys, card/activity formats — SEL toys are hybrid products
✔ Wants to build, not execute someone else's vision
──────────────────────
This is an early-stage, bootstrapped startup. We're not offering a MNC salary. We're offering a founding designer role in a category that doesn't exist yet in India, in a market that's growing at 20% a year, with full creative ownership from Day 1.
If you're Indian, trained abroad, and wondering what it would look like to build something back home — this is worth a conversation.
